Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Absolute Sound Loki Mini+ review:

https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/schiit-audio-loki-mini-equalizer/

“… And in fixing up recordings, the Loki really shines. All too many are too bright—turn down the 8k knob a little. Many are bass shy—turn up the 20Hz knob a bit. Some lack fullness—give a little extra at 400Hz. And if excess presence is biting your ears, turn down 2kHz. And of course the bass knob offers some do-it-yourself compensation when you want to listen at lower levels, a loudness control that is continuously adjustable, not just an on-or-off “loudness” button in the style of old preamps. …”

Class D isn’t sacred and schiit said they won’t do it.

What about linear power supply vs switching power supplies? Is that sacred?
I was kidding, and suggesting a product that I know Schiit would never produce. :)

Maybe "Loudness" should come back. Who can resist a button marked "Loudness?"

Confused? Look up the Fletcher-Munson curve.

Edit: no, not Syn.
Yes it should. I've been looking at the RME ADI-2 series of DACs and finding myself greatly allured by their loudness function, which scales according to volume setting, with some configuration of that available.

But I'm not entirely convinced. Some hi-fi setups that I've heard sound perfectly great no matter how quiet you play them, without any loudness control whatsoever. But most don't. I do not know what the equipment is doing and what my ears are doing in this regard.

There's so many questions! I'm starting to think I want a measurement setup.

ETA:
It is also non-trivial whether a set curve for the volume setting, or dynamically adjusting the loudness according to the level of the content, is the best solution. The answer is likely content-dependent!

I have done what I can to provide some items for the NC Schiit meet, time to work on making an amp prettier than the one I gave Cowen. I get to choose which is the prettiest.🤪🤪
Good luck with that. I guess after you’ve retired you can spend months and months on a futile endeavor and not have to worry about it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m gonna go with a tube receiver. Mostly because I know Jason loves looking for tube supply as much as he loves the word “receiver.”

My vote (for Syn) is for their FGPA DAC solution.

K, here's my guess on Syn.

An all digital phono preamp.
That wouldn’t be slaughtering a sacred cow. They would be slaughtering ALL the sacred cows.

Wait, I can barely remember which day of the week it is, now I have to think about months?

To start off with, the controls for this amp will be in the proper position, not along the side. Symmetry is worth at least five points, maybe seven.

Besides I am using your cardboard amp as inspiration. That in itself is worth something. I doubt your amp has a racing stripe.

… you could also put the cardboard / racing stripe amp on grey medium styrofoam cubes (“cinder blocks” 😏)
