Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Spent whole day and a/b as well, still no use. Lame excuse of needing higher end stuff or take some time to listen to stuff. Hearing differently is placebo and perception.
K, so you can save us some serious $$$ by telling us what DACs you're comparing through what chain of other equipment. Seriously, no snark intended.

Just ordered mine too! $336.00 I need suggestions for a USB-A to USB-C cable? around $25 or so dollars.
I've have had very good luck with Anker branded cables.

2022, Chapter 17

Holy crap, I thought. A problem you could only catch by listening to music, not by using the analyzer. A weirdo glitch that somehow only triggered with complex signals.

Something you'd never catch if you didn't listen to it—and, specifically, listen to it in a modern audiophile way, with a playlist of mixed sample rates, playing music. If you did automated testing only you never would have caught it!

Suddenly I was very happy we listen to everything before it's packed and shipped.

Long

And, if you’re keeping score:

Test Tones: 0
Music: 1
This.

Measurements are part of the design and engineering process and assist in validating elements of electrical performance.

However, no matter what the measureholes say, if you don't listen to it and only consider the performance with sineswaves, all you are doing is jerking to sinewaves.

We buy these products to enjoy musical 🎵 performances 🎭 not blips on a screen.

You think everything sounds the same? Cool. You think everything matters down to magic stones and hologram stickers? Fine. But going all One True Warrior about either side is just old, tiring, not very interesting...and a good way to be invited not to post in this thread again.

Ordered mine in black, can't wait to compare it to the stable of other Schiit DACs in my collection. :)

Friends, I have a confession to make: I am a Schiitaholic. I currently own:
1. Gungnir A1, fully updated
2. Modius
3. OG Modi Multibit with the .V2 chip
4. Former owner of a Bifrost Uber
5. Just ordered another DAC, even though because of an ongoing house renovation, none of them are current hooked up.

I also own the following headphone amps, but no headphones:
1. Valhalla 2
2. Magnius
3. OG Vali2

Thank you for hearing my testimonial.

Several years ago I went from a Modi 3 to the Modi multibit and it was a holy cow moment on first listen. I had the early Bifrost multibit and I couldn't tell the difference between it and the Modi multibit. It's still the king of the budget DACs for me. My Vali 2++ sounds the best with my Modi multibit in comparison to my other DACs.

Ironically, Modi Multibit 2 is also one of the products that needs to go thru 100% instrumented test as well as listening test--since it's a parallel-input DAC, it can drop a bit. If that's at or near the LSB, it's really really hard to hear.

Well, looks like Bifrost 2 is using the TI DACS from the Yggdrasil LIM and Modi Multibit 2 is using Analog Devices DACs from the same family as Yggdrasil OG.

My guess is the Modi has the potential to sound better than Bifrost.

Bifrost 2/64 is using the TI DACs but the OG Bifrost 2 was still using the Analog Devices DACs (AD5781ARUZ maybe?) - plenty of comparisons in how people interpret the sonic differences between the two floating around the interwebz

The Modi Multibit 2 may indeed be a "Baby Bifrost 2" but SE output only and sporting a Wall-Wart for the power supply

At any rate, I've placed my order for one and can hopefully answer my own questions soon :)

Silver or Black to match the MagPi?
A humble suggestion :)

I've been using these with the +, seem quality enough and a bit subtler than the various color cables- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09S5YDVZ5
