My Yiggy+ OG (in black) was delivered this morning. I ordered it on Wednesday. Got here in 3 days. Not bad!

I will be going to this new Yiggy+ OG from a Gungnir A1 MB.

I will report back in a few days after the Yiggy+ breaks in/warms up.
I would bet that you're in for a real treat. Enjoy!

One issue I'm up against (other than the obvious inability to play my 4K's) is the Pioneer only has L/R SE audio out and all the decent sound bars I've seen require HDMI or wireless (again the Pioneer is a dumb TV, LOL).

...

... I'll hang on to my Oppo 105D.
Wait, you have an OPPO 105D? Then I recommend you use the HDMI input on that and use its multichannel analog outputs (it becomes the receiver). I did
that with my 203 and it worked fine. The upscaler on the OPPO is also first rate for its time (if not still SOTA due to the passage of time). The DACs on the OPPO are pretty good. Experience with 105 as "receiver" here seems positive: https://forums.audioholics.com/forums/threads/oppo-bdp-105-receiver.91073/

And lastly, your right, the slasher/torture films aren't that scary or tension inducing and I find them boring compared to the "what's behind that basement door"? Duh! Or "what the hell is that creature" (thinking of the whatever it was in "Cloverfield") type.

Give me a good, atmospheric, dark old house or haunted mansion / castle type. Like "Woman in Black". I've also enjoyed the first couple of "Paranormal Activity", "Conjuring", and "Insideous" series. Films like "Sinister" have there moments as well.

And, yes, again, Carpenter's filmography is textbook "how to do it right!".
Woman in Black with Danny? That was great, was going to give it a rewatch.
Conjuring, also great.

10 Cloverfield Lane was a delightful surprise, is that the one you mean?

Netflix's Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor pair of mini-series is also very very good. The second one really tore me up on top of having some really frightening moments, and I don't mean jump scares. HST, the first series has one of the best jump scares I've ever experienced!

I'm looking for more things like The Monster. ...

The Yggy is forever, just ask @Baldr.
...but the Yggy has had usb updates which updated the dac.

How many 10-20 year old dacs are still considered amazing?

Many 10-50+ year old amps are still amazing

I am very much an enthusiast for musicals like these:

Oklahoma!
South Pacific
My Fair Lady
Brigadoon (a favorite!)
Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
Athena (w/Steve Reeves!)

I think I have viewed Brigadoon about 100 or more times now. Right now I am watching my absolute favorite film of all time and for me, that is saying a lot. It bumped the previous film that had reigned supreme for decades. That film is Quo Vadis. The movie I have on now is Kingdom of Heaven.

Not a musical but all the same it is the type of film I enjoy most of all, one that is laced with Historical facts and figures as is Quo Vadis. Leo Genn is superb in that film as was Peter Ustinove. I am ramblin'...Sorry!

10 Cloverfield was very good also. The sense of isolation and no real future makes for a compelling watch.
I have both mini-series, it's the ones that haunt my memory after viewing that I like best. Must be the adrenaline rush.

I think the ones made by @Baldr for Theta Digital fall into that category. So, that's a point in Yggy's favor, no?

One should include Man of La Mancha unless previously mentioned.
