There are still plenty of matched quad 6sn7's around if you look for them. An individual who buys a Freya + without tubes can search Ebay for new matched quads or matched pairs. Often you will find new Tung Sol (Russian made), Psvane, and even Sylvanias. It is easier to look for matched pairs and I mostly run combinations of those in my Freya +. Quads of Melz 1578's are overkill for me so I may run a pair of those with other brands to shape the sound to my liking. Some of the quads can be in the $400 range but some are priced more like these.

VivaTubes.com also has them.

Yep as do other sellers you can find on Etsy. I often buy 30 or more at a time if some of my favorites are available out of Russia. I save friends shipping time and when you buy a large group, one can often match pairs and quads on genuine NOS tubes. I am also involved in a 6sn7 equivalent blind test and while friends and I collected over 1900 types of tubes, we never bought more than two of each type, in many cases just one. This started around two years ago and our searching days are pretty much over. Many of the tubes will be donated when our tests are completed, I believe @bcowen has requested any GE's in our possession.

I had bad luck with Viva not standing behind bad brand new tubes.

With respect to Freya S/Saga S:

1. Yes, there will be an additional run of each product to use up metal we found a while back (additional tops, might as well build them, because they use the same bottom chassis as Freya+ and Saga+. Timing is "it happens when it happens," AKA "ASAP," or "when the PCB assemblers have capacity." Best guess is end of summer. But that's a guess. Don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

2. With respect to them staying in the line, all I can say is that if they are available on our site and if you want one, you should pick one up. Beyond that, we'll see. If tube supply problems continue, that will certainly affect the decision. If tube supply gets better, that will also affect the decision. Always in motion the future and all that jazz.

Maybe Schitt can do a seasonal / limited time thing with Saga S and Freya S ala McRib and Shamrock Shake, etc. :D

IMHO -- The Freya S was a preamp ahead of its time. We as consumers were just not ready for it when released intitially.

(Still hoping for a Saga S+ w/ SE and BAL in/out featuring Nexus)

BTW, you don't really need a matched quad. You can get two matched pairs, and use the pairs in the same L/R positions (e.g. one set in the gain positions, the other set in the driver positions).
Yeah I mentioned that earlier, I tend to use pairs and not quads myself and put the higher end 6sn7's in the driver position. Often I use a pair of CBS/Hytron 5692's or Melz 1578's from the late fifties or early sixties. Pairs are much easier to shop for. :beerchug:

I'm afraid not. At least not yet. The Gungnir is on my Sony disc player.
I like the Gungnir myself and use a Bifrost 2 in my smaller system.

I'm hoping they will do that too for the Sol too. Small batches when everything is in place.

I agree with you about the Freya S @Ripper2860
I also think it was ahead of its time and I am glad I managed to get hold of one before it was discontinued!
It is ( in my opinion) a brilliant design and a real audiophile bargain.
Nice one Jason
