Ah, I had not considered that. Shipping costs were reasonable last I ordered from the U.S. but if they have increased significantly then yes, it is a hassle.

I'm priveleged to live in Canada. The worst I have to deal with in shipping is some delays followed by paying taxes at the border. If I lived outside North America, I'd have to look elsewhere for audio equipment. (No Schiit kit for me). I wonder if our African and South American sisters and brothers get hosed by importing kit from the USA...

I was going to state the same. Statistics are what I'm looking for. I'm glad that this individual enjoys his L.A. environment. Live long and prosper my friend Victor, but don't deny facts due to your limited personal experience walking down skid row or other things you have personally experienced. Last time I checked (aside from bad BBQ), this isn't the forum for it. We all have our perspectives. You (the proverbial) don't know me, what I think, or what my life experiences have been, and I don't know yours. All the pigeonholing of people into narrow "categories" is what's causing all the crap today.

So, I think we're on the part of the curve where Jason is going to chime in and put everybody on notice. Personally, I would rather him jump straight to a new and entertaining chapter.

As a resident of Los Angeles I can say this is nothing but the typical conservative image of CA - Sure there is crime - but there is crime anywhere and everywhere. Let me put it this way. I have walked unharmed thru LA's Skid Row. I have been viciously harassed in a racist manner in 1) rural California - so no, it's not nice. 2) Colo Springs 3) Texas (El Paso). So no - Iike I mentioned before, found a home and will never leave. And we are the 5th economic power in the world. I have never been or will be back to Colorado or Texas and avoid rural California as much as possible.

Euphonium nerd alert to get us off barbeque - I've been a working bass trombonist for fifty years and have ten bass trombones in my collection. Indeed! It's good to have choices in the audio market since everyone have different preferences in advancing their audio chain

Local: Can support local businesses (quite important in this COVID-19 climate), way faster delivery times (sometimes within the day if you can go to the distributor's office and buy), localised RMA/warranty/repairs, higher upfront costs, lower availability (which is what we are discussing)

Direct: Can support your favourite manufacturer directly, lower upfront costs, need to account for additional delivery times and cost, need to send back to manufacturer for RMA/warranty/repairs, more availability

Going direct is essentially a gamble that you won't need the localised support for a small discount. But then again, isn't audiophilia a form of gamble in the first place?

I am from Singapore, which is out of the US and therefore going for Schiit is more expensive since I need to account for shipping costs. But yet, I still feel fortunate since I am in a stable situation that still lets me earn enough to afford those costs and Fedex is still able to deliver my Schiit goods despite an ongoing pandemic. For reference, they were sent out by Schiit to Fedex on last Friday (03/05) and arrived on my doorstep on Tuesday (03/08).
