Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Close, but @Paladin79 seems to keep these three D words in the rotation when he references you ...

1. Deplorable
2. Degenerate
3. Dimwit

Whew. Those are my good qualities. Hopefully he doesn't regularly refer to my bad ones. :relaxed:

Yeah, I know!! Right?? :D

Hey, dogs love cat Schitt too!
Round here we call that Kitty Roca and puppies have this strange fascination with it, somehow, please don't ask me why or how…
hahahahahahahahahahaa

Thinking it and saying it are not the same thing. :smile_phones:

I do need to get Bill involved in checking out some 6080 tubes so he will buy every type known to man and save me a lot of work. I need to find four that are very well matched yet are closer to $10 each as opposed to those going for $100 or more.

The search is over. Price may be a bit high, but you can't help but be impressed with the amazingly compact storage scheme:

And $3.99 shipping!! My guess he tosses them all in a hefty trash sack, sticks a label on it, and tosses it out of his vehicle window as he drives past the post office.

Oh, wait. That's not for the whole lot -- it's for a quad. Disregard my comment above.

Thant's what I get for skimming. :unamused:

But I have nothing to listen to them with. Better send me an amp. :relaxed:
I bet I can figure out something to send you. Goals should be time-binding, I will build you something early next year. Most likely in February, March at the latest. 6sn7 and 6080 tubes. You best have high impedance headphones, 13 ohm will not cut it.:dt880smile:

No worries. Bill has high impedance ears. :D

This USB issue I am having with my Schiit Modi Multibit is getting curiouser than what I thought

After getting those audio distortions during startup again, I decided to bite the bullet and get one of those Optical to Coaxial converters from Tendak via Amazon and then convert the Optical Out from my computer to the Modi Multibit's Coaxial Input. Aside from having to go down from 32/192 to 24/96, there appears to be no audible differences so far. The strange part is that my gaming optical mouse, which is connected to the same USB hub as the Modi Multibit when using its USB Input, does not behave erratically anymore (e.g. no more random jiittery moverments, no more phantom double clicks).

I am still monitoring this issue while also trying to figure out how can an USB DAC cause an USB mouse to act strangely. Anyone here can help me understand this better?

Those are certainly tempting but I may try to hold out for other tubes. :dt880smile: Thanks for your extensive research that must have put a dent in your busy schedule.

GE and GEC should match up pretty well right, kind of like yin and yang?

These are more to my liking.

There seem to be plenty of RCA, Tung Sol, and Sylvania around. This will be easier than I first expected. I prefer the ST style, but that is not a must.

The prices go up drastically as you get into Telefunken, WE, and Bendix.

at the higher data rate of 32/192 (32 bits / 192K samples per second), which is 3 times the amount bits compared to 24/96, your computer's USB and / or CPU was unable to keep up with feeding the DAC and simultaneously reading the mouse movements. if your source audio files were not 32/192 native to begin with, your CPU would also need to upconvert from the native file rate up to 32/192 which takes a lot of CPU power (if you're running a windows-based PC, you can open Task Manager and under the performance tab, look at the CPU usage while playing the 32/192 files). the original recordings were likely made at 16/44.1 or 16/48 and mastered and stored that way. 16 bits already provides a lot of dynamic range-- think pin-drop quiet to smoke-detector loud. Even if streamed to your computer at 24/96 or 24/192 they were likely upconverted somewhere, so using 24/96, or even 16/48 to feed the Modi Multibit thru any of its inputs is a better way to go.

Well bummer on that as well. Guess you'll need to send some HP's too. :frowning: Unless I can just splice some resistors into the Aeon's cable. Resistance is kind of like impedance, right?

On the plus side I have a couple extra 6SN7's, so good to go on that....

Think of resistance for DC circuits and impedance for AC.

I will disavow any knowledge of your resistor splicing, I believe you have a rough idea how tricky it is to change output impedance on an amp now lol.
