Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I actually prototyped a 20W per channel desktop amp a couple of years back, and abandoned it, because it would be probably a $249-299 product. I figured the high cost would make it a no-go.

If I was to go back to this product, I'd re-do it in the current-feedback architecture. The old design was a conventional Lin-topology, MOSFET-output amp. But I'm not convinced there's enough demand for it. Am I overlooking something?

!!!!!!! So I was just reading the Vidar Chronicles pt 1 and came upon this.

Please reconsider. A product like this has room in your stable. Add a headphone out that's off the main speaker lines (Like the Emotiva A-100) and you'd have a golden product. I'd buy a couple. Office, home office. Screw (the average) active setups.

It is an experience it slaps you in the chest, and shakes the house. :)

And now some more HiFi porn.

This is a new friends workshop, man he has a good job

I already posted a few pics but I'll give some description this time.

This is vintage a JustBeLoud movie theater speaker. the horn is ultra sensitive, as in 116db/1 watt!
The main bass cabinets are modified from the originals, actually the whole setup is extensively modified from stock.
It sounds amazing to say the least. :stuck_out_tongue:

The band pass sub on the bottom is custom made and uses active crossovers and a 3000 watt class D pro amp, per side. :hushed:

Everything else is tubes, these are made in Minnesota, though I forget a lot of details.

It was a lot to take in, there is another kick ass system I haven't even shown yet + more very cool stuff
I got to audition my new/used CD player on this system, how could I say no to vintage gear like this:wink:

Just what I need, a watch that sells in the $50,000 to $100,000 price range. It is a wild design none the less.

We're in the same camp. The Gadget would only be a novelty in my system, soon forgotten or a subject of buyer's regret. I've even ruled out Loki because I'd spend far more time adjusting than enjoying music; get it sounding great with King Crimson, then it sounds off playing Chick Corea. Heck, I even leave my tone controls flat.
I am too OCD to have too many controls. I need one volume control and a direct circuit to the amplifier.

I'd put the horn on top of the bass bin...

Audio forums are an interesting space on the internet.

Forum:
"Definition of forum

1a : the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business

b : a public meeting place for open discussion The club provides a forum for people interested in local history.

c : a medium (such as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas" --

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/forum

The key take-away from this definition, as it applies to the Audio world, "open discussion or expression of ideas".

Every discussion forum with which I have been involved with seem to be chocked down, because a few folks have appointed themselves are the arbitrator of what is "open discussion".

I have a theory about the Human behavior of participating on the Internet.
1. Bullies tend to hide behind anonymous postings.
2. Self-appointed "Popes" seek a small group of acolytes who defend their leader, and attack in packs.
3. Typically, a newcomer, whose "open discussion" topic flies in the face of the acceptable, and agreed upon rules.
4. The College of Bishops converge and harass the newcomer until they either agree with the Dogma, or get so frustrated that they have an outburst, worthy of Banning him from the forum.

The Pope says, "Job well Done" and the acolytes retreat into their dark recesses.

I experienced this phenomena over on Chris Connaker's "Computer Audiophile".

I am enjoying my visits and interactions on "Head-fi.org" and I have already identified those who can find a negative comment, no matter what the topic. I have met some new friends, and I chose to follow them, and ignore the troublesome.

The open discussions on that forum are sharing of knowledge, about a hobby.
It is not a place where men need to compare their size and girth.

There will always be folks who walk into the bar, pull out their manhood, an flop it on the bar, begging someone to challenge his size.

Ok...well first-off -- there are no religious discussions allowed here!

Secondly -- while the theory has some merit, I feel you've vastly over-estimated our capabilities!

It actually aligns more closely with this...

Mwah.. more an automatic reaction to the tube hype in audioland today.
Not at you mind...
I have my tubes stuck in a sort of black stiff neoprene.
Indeed as a sort of decoration thingy.
Tubes are not more delicate than other thin glass enclosures and they look nice (to us).
Sensible people think we're bonkers with that old "radio/tv stuff".

But then, nothing more boring than being sensible......
