Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

That's quite a price !! almost what I paid for the headphones. I guess no point hoping that Schiit might produce a reasonably priced line of balanced cables to go with their amps like MJ2...I suppose too many phone connector variables.

I am loving my Yggdrasil/Mjolnir 2 combo with my Sennheiser HD 650 headphones!

See my signature for the cables used.

Point is... Sennheisers own aftermarket balanced cables cost much more than that.
And I'm sure Schiit Audio will never ever bring cables to the market.

Apologies if it was already mentioned, as I'm just getting caught up, but for cheap no-nonsense basic balanced cables I'd check out https://www.veclan.com/ (maker of quite excellent earbuds, and recently cables as well).

I haven't tried their cables, but I've seen reports online that they're quite reasonable. I do have about 8 pairs of their earbuds and have had no issues.

Edit - Haha, looks like 3 or 4 people already beat me to mentioning VE. Still, add me to the list recommending them.

Use balanced if you have it; if you don't, it is a negligible downgrade to SE, unless you absolutely need the 6db gain.

Balanced, shmallanced. I have had good balanced amps, and good single ended amps. My current and best to date rig is single ended. Would I go balanced again? Sure if it sounded as good or better than my current rig. Balanced is not inherently better (or worse) than single ended.
This debate goes round and round and am not engaging it other than thinking this recent post by Mike is relevant.  Schiit seems to think there is something to a proper balanced design. Balanced properly summed out of Yggy is pretty darn good because of that.

Here's to hoping that their design mentality works good with Vidar like it does with their other gear.

Now let us talk other Schiit.
Today I had the chance to compare the Audeze LCD-X ? HD 800 and a few of my other favorites.
Man, man, man.... that is a really big sinkhole.

I was comparing the cans on a Mjolnir 2. Both B and UB.
Now I am on tranquilizers, wipsy, meditation, counseling and deep deep existential ...brrrgrrrr.....

Next week I will try again and keep you posted.

Is it just me, or has schiit gotten really weird in this forum recently?
Back on topic - the Gungnir Multibit backorder is over!!! My MJ2 and Gumby are en route! :) can't wait!

I wonder how much it would cost to have the Yggy and Raggy powder coated black. I'd have it done myself, but I don't know how to preserve that sweet Schiit logo

Do you already have them or do you plan to buy them?
In the first case I would point to a good automobile specialist and in the latter case ... Make your reservations as soon as possible as long as they have them.

I've been waiting on the off chance the black versions show up on their website, but I am starting to get sick of waiting.

Back to Schiit: for the last 6 months I've owned both a Jotunheim and a Cavalli Liquid Carbon v2.0 for my headphone rig. Today, I sold the LC 2 for a good price. It's a nice little headphone amp, and I can understand why it has so many fans given its lush, romantic tone, especially on strings and voices, but in the end the straight as a steel edge Jot won the day with the mostly modern jazz, modern classical (listening right now to a new recording of Bartók's "Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion," West and North Africa, Persia, India, and combinations thereof (like "In C Mali," Terry Riley's "In C" performed by Brian Eno with a motley crew of Western and West African musicians). Even at the cost of a bit of soundstage, which feels a bit less deep on the Jot than on the LC. I just decided that any suggested coloring, even subtle, does not work for me (no tubes in my future, I guess). That's why downstairs I have the Yggy feeding a very neutral Hegel H360 and rather neutral KEF Reference 1s -- and that has plenty of stage depth with the right recordings, so when I feel like it, I stop working at my standing desk and go sit down for a good listen. Roon helps, no futzing around with physical media, just let my phone control it all.

I'd go with a hard anodized process.

One problem with having your gear refinished. It would invalidate the warranty.
