Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Millions of hours of learning. That fascinates me about AI/ML, that with enough computing power, time is compressed. In one second, years of work can be accomplished. That to me is so freakin' cool, and that is now that we're basically in the ancient age of AI/ML. Imagine years from now how it'll advance!
There’s a meme out there that says something to the effect that “if someone from the 1950s were time transported to 2023 the thing that would surprise them the most is that we all have a device in our pocket that allows unlimited access to all the world’s history and data as well the ability to communicate with virtually anyone on the planet in real time. We use this device to view pictures of cats and argue with strangers.”

AI will be similarly wasted according to this guy who wants the darn kids to stay off the lawn.

I love that, ha-ha! Crazy how we have people from the 50s alive, but they slowly experienced the technological changes, so they aren't wowed by it like if we actually brought someone from the 50s into the present time. They'd probably lose their minds.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll all be drinking that free Bubble-Up, and eatin' that rainbow stew...

But I'm afraid my esteemed dystopian colleague @Ripper2860 predicted the more likely outcome.

If you haven’t heard it, you might also enjoy an early version of the title track (which didn’t make it onto the album).

It features Mick Ronson on lead guitar.

I think it is on the ‘deluxe’ edition of ‘Tumbleweed Connection’ CD, but will check when I get home.

Edit: Just checked and the 'original' version of 'Madman Across the Water' featuring Mick Ronson is on the deluxe CD of Tumbleweed Connection.
I prefer the later version, but Mick Ronson's guitar playing on the original version is very good.
Hey Les, I have the SACD of "Tumbleweed Connection" - Island-Universal B0003611-36. It has a bonus track - "Madman Across the Water (Original version)", track duration is 8:51. There is a comprehensive booklet in the slip case (24 pages of images and words!) - but no mention of Mick.

I will need to check the interwebs... but right now I am reveling in EJ's piano playing on "Where to now St. Peter?"... :)

p.s.- I never realized that Leslie Duncan wrote "Love Song", and she sings the backing vocals with Elton... cool. He is very supportive of other artists that he has respect for...

p.p.s. - oh wow, at around 2m25s on "Love Song", an ocean-side/beach-side ambient track (waves crashing, kids yelling and playing) swells up into the mix... and for a minute, I thought that Urd was freaking out again. Happy to say - no, it was actually encoded on the disc. :)

Folklore is a great record. The rest of the catalog does nothing for me, but T Swift is great at business.

1 of every 25 vinyl records sold in 2022 was a Taylor Swift album.
Folklore is a spectacular record, IMHO. I liked it so much that I bought it in vinyl... the recording and the mastering is gorgeous.

And what a timesaver it will become when we employ AI listeners to listen to all our schiit all at once. 🤣
That'll solve the objectivist/subjectivist challenge once and for all! Or, will it?

... This is what I love: finding a way to take some interesting raw drivers and make them sound good. I spend days on the crossover design, measuring and listening and testing and tweaking. ... What I don't love is carpentry and furniture making. .... But otherwise, I really don't pay much attention to cosmetics. :)
...
k, then you and @Paladin79 need to get @Jason Stoddard to set you up as Schitty Speakers, LLC.

That person would totally get the porn part of the equation.
A.I. would similarly enable new levels of porn. Ick! run me through the dishwasher NOW, pls...

What I don't love is carpentry and furniture making. In fact I'm crap at it. So I only use the bare necessities to test system enclosure size then find or have made for me what I need to suit the system I'm designing if I decide to turn it into something for the house.
You should talk to my friend @Paladin79 - you guys could be quite a team. Or, I'm sure that @bcowen could help you with cardboard enclosures for your designs... caveat emptor.
As in all things, YMMV.
Best phrase ever. Thank goodness for the power of personal choice!

Kinda like how you adapt over time to a clutch that's wearing out... you can launch the car and shift the gears just fine, until one day when you let a friend drive your car and she says: "Dude, the clutch in this thing is schiit!"

As a guy from the 50s who has been programming computers since memories were measured in kB, (core) memory access times in multiple microseconds, and circuits boards were stuffed with discrete transistors, I'm still constantly wowed... but maybe that's why I keep working on it...

Also bought the vinyl. (Though only one version!)

It’s terrific. The other stuff leaves me cold (Though Ryan Adam’s song-for-song cover of 1989 reveals the quality of the songwriting there too), but she hit something special with Folklore and dismissing it because of preconceived notions shows more about the person dismissing the music than the music itself.
