Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

my neighborhood is so electromagnetically noisy that I can't rely on WiFi for consistent streaming without dropouts. So, after much frustration I gave up on WiFi and wired all the house with CAT 6. Digital streaming bliss. I still use WiFi for the mobile devices/apps that control the streamers.

Ditto.  Heck! our laptops get kicked off all the time.

Wired is the way to go.

Speaking of wifi streaming to your DAC, can anybody point me in the direction to read up on that stuff? Would like to look into a DIY or maybe even commercial product to use. Would be better than using my loud gaming PC.

I have a few posts on this in other threads, check my recent posting history or just start here.

I don't know of a good place or forum to read up on wifi streaming or building your own player. Here are some reviews that may help you understand various capabilities/etc.: http://www.audiostream.com/category/players-streamer-reviews

If you purchase commercial there are many ways to go from $35 Chromecast Audio to hundreds to thousands of dollar devices. I use Google Chromecast Audio currently (and it works/sounds great!) while waiting for LHL's Geek Source. Below are links to some worthy streamers depending on what you need and how much you want to spend. It also depends on what you want it to do (Such as have local controls or controlled only from a phone ..... or ..... such as stream only music you have on a hard drive, and/or from the cloud, and/or from radio stations and/or streaming services like Roon. Also, some will store music locally too). Below are some examples I'd consider at different prices.
  1. Chromecast Audio: http://www.head-fi.org/t/782899/chromecast-audio-can-anyone-comment-on-sound-quality
  2. Auralic Aries: http://hifiheaven.net/shop/AURALiC-ARIES-EXTREME-Bridge-Streamer?language=en&currency=USD&gclid=Cj0KEQjwmpW6BRCf5sXp59_U_ssBEiQAGCV9GptDzy4Sa0WB43n0moaKMXZlxhd5HcyaCZEozHK_0RkaAjK78P8HAQ
  3. SalkSound Streamer: http://www.salkstream.com/
  4. Bryston: http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BYBDP2&variation=19BLK&gclid=Cj0KEQiAv5-zBRCAzfWGu-2jo70BEiQAj_F8oCFD0XGrbrM9L7uhFDD0yabxnpJVPgynolPjntWiQJUaAhYY8P8HAQ

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

The computer audiophile forums are much better than head-fi for that discussion, very few people here can hold a discussion on the subject.

Yea, I just needed a link or two, had no idea where to go for that stuff outside of Google. Found a lot of what I needed though.

I've read this in the past, but I remain a bit sceptical: Was the Wyrd indeed the first USB purifier out there?

The first one that incorporated both a low-noise power supply and packet repeating, yes.

We haven't looked at this yet, so I can't comment, sorry. But we'll look into it!

FWIW, people have reported excellent results using Focusrite RedNet (an AES67 device) instead of USB:

If that technology is the real deal, it would be awesome if Yggy could incorporate a direct ethernet input to avoid having an external AES67 device.

Edit: and the choice of SS or tube output would be sweet, too...

Would be awesome if Yggy could incorporate a direct ethernet input so we could stop fiddling with USB (reclocking, galvanic isolation, etc).

This is why you have Coax RCA, Coax BNC, Optical Toslink and AES/EBU inputs in the Yggy...
