Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In my area voltages are reasonably steady between 115 to 120. But during AC season Ive seen it drop to 105.
The "normal" line voltage in the USA is 120V. I am on my own 25KVA 14.4KV/240V for the house, and a separate duplicate transformer for my shop. My line voltage is 123V RMS + or - 1V at all times [unless it is zero volts, which is frequent]. I design and build my tube amplifiers with this in mind. Although the B+ voltage is not a problem, the filament voltage is, as power tubes especially want better than 10% variation from nominal. For new transformers, this is not a problem, but for NOS transformers, corrective action is required. One solution that I use is to take the unused 5V rectifier tube filament winding [assuming that you are using a solid state rectifier], and connecting it to buck the "120V" input to the transformer. This makes the input line voltage 4 to 6 volts lower, and preserves the filaments of those $300 1578 Melz that you found in Ukraine last week.

🤪🤪🤪

Sorry about the cold!
Yes, I also have a plain old ordinary winter head cold. All sorts of medicos have tried to convince me that it is a, b, c, d, etc. It is a cold--suck it up, go through stacks of handkerchiefs, drink some good whisky with a dash of bitters, and shut up. Life is good!

Also dealing with a head cold. Not bad all things considered but can't fly when ears & sinuses are involved.
Out of whisky at the moment but a glass of Mexican beer certainly helps the mood. :beerchug:

Yes but does it help you sing like that guy?

I must be missing something - the regular price for a Gungnir right now is $1199....is that the joke? Or...? Do you get 2 for $1269? Totally lost.
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe probably a misprint.

Good point.

Maybe a typo?

Trust me, you will recover from the singing part, don’t suddenly quit your day job to pursue a singing career.🤪🤪

So I moved the electronics over to my “B” system and found the warmth I was missing. This combo is stunning!

Speakers are GR Research X-Statiks with a Sealed Servo-controlled subwoofer.

Tyr has elevated these towers to a level of which I didn't know they were capable! They just seem to have total control of the drivers and yet still provide a ton of air, depth, and dynamic energy.

The X-Statiks use a soft dome Peerless tweeter. It’s not as transparent as the Super 7’s planar tweeter, but it is more forgiving of poor recordings. These are particularly great for rock, techno, and similar music.

Please tell me that's a subwoofer in the cylinder behind the Tyr stage left.

Mjolnir 3, when it hits, will be accompanied by something like the "15 Magnis" chapter. It took a long time for me to come up with something we liked. We tried a bunch of approaches, including Nexus/Continuity/Programmable OPS, tube hybrid, all-solid-state-tech-forward, etc...and ended up with something that's a bit of a left turn. It's closest to the Freya+ buffer stage topologically, but with some Mjolnir 1 DNA, and with a bunch of things we've never done before: true dual mono, choke-input, discrete-regulated supplies, ultra HV front end, real Class A with switchable SE or push-pull operation, switchable no overall feedback, switchable gain.

It's still huge for a desktop amp, it's extremely heavy with 4 48VA core transformers/chokes inside, and it puts out an insane amount of heat. This is real, no-fooling Class A, like the original Asgard, not high-bias Class AB or Continuity. It won't be for everyone. And it's still many months out. Maybe summer. We'll see.
It really needs to come out just before winter, so it can help keep the room warm.
