Hehehe yeah, I was at Top Gun 3 times, none of the other crap in that movie Is real either. When the jet blast deflector rises up out of the deck and the Tomcats engines are run up to zone 5 (full throttle) in preparation for launch you can feel it in your bones and you can't hear anything else, that's why we use hand signals and wands to communicate during those events.

Fallon. I haven't seen the latest one, I just didn't to want endure anymore Hollywood hype. After The Final Countdown, Officer and a Gentleman and TG I swore off movies about Naval aviators. TG (the real deal) was always stressful as could be, the Tomcats could annihilate anything the Air Force had so we were under ridiculous restrictions about radar and weapons use. We were forced to use the same limited range missiles and radar ranges as the F16s totally pathetic. We still only lost one bird in all 3 of the TGs I attended. Our skipper was ambushed on landing by an A10 that popped up... OMG he was insufferable after that. Fun fact, my rack is in the Final Countdown but I was deck when they filmed it, didn't even know until I saw it in the theater.
