Tonight it was dinner out and then some Diana Damrau singing Mozart, Salieri, and Righini. A cd in the transport. My wife’s birthday so her choice of music.

Freaking cold here for October so a fire in the wood stove and fine bourbon completes the evening. I have been changing 12AU7 tubes in a power amp and came upon a magical combination. No sense trying to describe some things, when it is right you just know it.

Naturally Finnegan is here enjoying the sound.

Out of curiosity what 12AU7 tubes did you go for? I just got an amp that takes them so I am on the hunt for some good NOS ones

All I know is, despite what @ArmchairPhilosopher says, black looks cool and elegant and I'm glad that I finally got my first black Schiit.

I'ma let you in on a secret. But it will have to stay between you and I, ok? Don't let the others know, or I'll never hear the end of it…

I actually don't have a problem with black Schiit.* I just don't like the visual "mess" it creates when you start to mix and match. Looks just a bit too busy to my eyes.
Silver came first, so that's what I'll keep buying for as long as it's being offered, just for consistency's sake.

I know, quite the bombshell. That's like @bcowen saying that he actually keeps his Schiit housed in metal cases instead of cardboard. Just imagine the public outcry this would cause! And that's why I must implore you to keep this between just the two of us.

* Other than that it really is a dust magnet and a bit of a bitch to just wipe it off due to the rough surface finish. That I actually do care about.

I happen to have two of his cardboard amp cases somewhere in my shop, I will try to run comparisons right after friends and I do a new DAC study.



Now as far as black or silver equipment I have a mixture of both. I own specific pieces I like and concentrate more on the sound than appearance. For the black pieces some canned air and a good air filter certainly help. I do not like reaching around a lot of tubes to dust.
