Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Nov 23, 2021 at 3:30 PM Post #84,721 of 150,893
I am a software engineer.
75% of my energy goes into fighting other software engineers to keep their Schiit simple.
I am not kidding.
In fact, it's probably more like 85% of my energy that goes into that, the remaining 15% goes into actually being productive myself.
And I mean "fighting" in the most literal (albeit non-violent) way. I have lost more jobs over this than I care to remember.

Doesn't matter if it's a concept, UI, UX, or code itself, "bigger" is always "better".
From the C suite down to the last code monkey in some dank basement somewhere, every last one of them has this never ceasing primal urge to justify their own existence within a project by out-complicating each other on whatever they touch.

As long as we live in a society that values competition, consume, and quantity over quality, we will keep getting the products we deserve. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Software by Microsoft then?
That used to be the case, but the current Ford Sync software uses QNX written by Blackberry. Tesla runs a system based on French company DS software.

Imagine all of the pin cleaning! Not that you are obsessive compulsive but how could you sleep at night knowing just one of those tubes had dirty pins??? You would be more of a mess than you are now, best to back away and stick to your Barbie doll collection, it is much safer.
I can see @bcowen twitching from here.

Nice looking cats!

Somehow, I assumed that a hardcore tube enthusiast would have a matched pair of felines.
@Paladin79's cats are self-biasing, no need for a matched pair.

Finnegan formed an attachment to this tube so I let him play with it. GE, GEC, practically the same thing right?

There is only one on Ebay right now.

Kind of like a Ford Pinto and a Corvette are practically the same thing. I'll be glad to send Finnegan a GE 5998A in exchange for that GEC. He won't know the difference, and apparently you won't either. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yes, the stuff nightmares are made of. But even worse, I visited a fellow audiophile a while back to listen to his system. Can't tell you what it was comprised of because the first thing I saw was dust on his amp. Dust!! Despite my inner voice telling me to remain calm and be polite, I couldn't help but run out of the house screaming. I mean, was I wrong?
