Yes, the stuff nightmares are made of. But even worse, I visited a fellow audiophile a while back to listen to his system. Can't tell you what it was comprised of because the first thing I saw was dust on his amp. Dust!! Despite my inner voice telling me to remain calm and be polite, I couldn't help but run out of the house screaming. I mean, was I wrong?

Yes. You should have helped him by offering to dust off his tubes langorously with your tongue. At the very least it would make for a great viral video.

Kind of like a Ford Pinto and a Corvette are practically the same thing. I'll be glad to send Finnegan a GE 5998A in exchange for that GEC. He won't know the difference, and apparently you won't either. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Sorry, Finnegan chose that out of some miscellaneous tubes I have in a box so it is his now. He would know the difference.😺 I am curious if you actually bought one of the GE 5998A's and what your thoughts are?

At one point I was trying to decide on four matched power tubes for my test amps and I could not come up with four identical GEC’s so I used Tung Sol 5998’s and built around those.

"Tung Sol"...Reads like a cool name for a Kung Fu movie hero! I looked up the tube it and really looks cool!

So... Ordered myself a Christmas present. I've been known to play with HO scale trains on the odd occasion, and there's a tiny little company that does animated signs for layouts (they can be used standalone as well). I have their N&W RR stuff, since that's what my layout is based on, but this little beauty caught my eye this morning! Seems like it fits my Schiity decor. Fits in a desktop base that takes a 4.5V adapter or 3 AAs. I think @Paladin and perhaps (since it looks kinda GE-ish), some others, ahem, might require one.

And Happiest of Thanksgiving to those in the US.

Love it!

Except @Paladin79 will probably like this one better:

Nice!! I'll be doing a more traditional Thanksgiving at my sister's house tomorrow. Next year is at my house and the main course will be very similar to what's in your picture. I'll be smoking a brisket next week after I finish up a month's worth of training. I hope mine looks as nice as yours.

Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to all! :)

May be best not to touch the anode caps while it's powered up (unless you're just running voltage to the filaments).

I guess the antacids will help with the BBQ - joking!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all my America cousins

Just filaments. Valve are a pair of tired old 572 b's from a Ham Radio amp. ( About 1200 watts PEP )
