I am disappointed that it is only after 3 years as a North Carolinian that I discover that there are two types of sauce. That MUST mean that the 'other' type is the one you all tease @bcowan about. I therefore conclude that we in NC are obviously better. We have choices whereas you people down in that odd shaped state have only what has been foisted upon you all these years.

Just for the record, I've never claimed to be a BBQ expert. Because I like NC BBQ and NC BBQ is superior to all others it's more a statement of good taste than a claim of expertise.

Tubes are a bit different with objective and solid engineering data supporting them...

Joking, obviously.
Your ability to identify individual tubes by ear as mentioned numerous times by @Paladin79 is legendary. I'm literally in awe.

FYI 12AT7 is 3 times the gain of a 12AU7. I wouldn’t recommend it. There are a bunch of 12AU7 variants to choose from.
True - AU is lower gain than AT, but either will work just fine. I have used both AUs and ATs in several HP amps (OTL and Hybrid) in place of 6SN7 (and 6922 in Valhalla 2) with no perceivable noise difference despite the gain. Stay away from 12AX7, however. They definitely have way too much gain / noise to run as a 6SN7 stand-in.

There's Eastern NC vinegar-based and then there's Western NC / Lexington which is Ketchup-based. Although it does have some vinegar it is not enough to call it vinegar-based. Eastern uses pulled whole pork, while Western uses only pork shoulder, IIRC.

Good taste is a prerequisite for expertise!!!

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
Besides, BBQ is always better when you're stoned.
I have relatives that would happily agree with you on this. Me? I have never done anything like alcohol or even marijuana. Like my big sister says, I am not going to live longer it is just going to feel like it because I am such a bore. I tend to think much of it is congenital. I was born this way. :beerchug:

Indiana is not known for bar-b-cue, we have to travel to Tennessee or Kansas city for it. :)
Yes, but there IS persimmon pudding… seriously good stuff!

Your conclusions are incorrect.

The fact that you have a choice of sauces in no way implies that you're better.

TX BBQ is superior to NC BBQ as it requires no sauce at all. The fact that you have two types of sauce forces me to draw the conclusion that NC BBQ is so bad that you have not one, but two ways to disguise it's hideousness.

TX BBQ joints have sauces available to appease yankees (FWIW, I was born in PA therefore a yankee) and those who don't understand that good BBQ is delicious just as it comes off the smoker.

As always, YMMV. :sunglasses:
I’m the guy who has 14 varieties of mustard in the house right now (had to borrow some fingers from @Paladin, my first degree was in English Lit, after all). A well executed southern mustard-based bbq is a beautiful thing. (Last really great one I had was in Boone, NC…)

That is a powerful endorsement of the Sol @wout31 :relaxed:
It must be a real 'giant killer' turntable!
@Les Strat , @gljus
Come on guys, you're just dragging a piece of hard rock over a piece of soft plastic with + 20 dB and - 20 dB corrections and monofied bass to be able to keep the needle in the record groove. What do you expect to get?
Records start wearing the first time you put them on the TT. Don't even start about second hand records where the history is unknown.
Yes, there are masters that are better done for LP than the ones for CD, but vise versa is just as often the case.
And at that point you don't have source material yet (unless you have a well preserved private records collection).

I find it totally ridiculous that people are willing to pay such insane prices for the "vintage" so called "top" material. All vintage audio material is advertised as "High End" nowadays.
EMT was designed for 24/7 abusive use in studios. Sounds OK, but nothing fancy. Durability great, HiFi just so so. The Sol arm, due to it's unique unrestrained unipivot design, is way way better sounding. It wouldn't last one hour in studio use though.
Technics TT specs are just as great as Sol's, but not an inch better. Only if you need the fast start/stop (again for DJ and studio) it has advantages.
All the rest is smoke and mirrors. Too many people listen with their eyes, wallet and with specs in hand instead of just using their ears.

Record prices is even more derailed. I recently looked at Patricia Barber's Blue café album.
Double album $ 250,00 + shipping for a sealed set.
CD $ 25,00 + shipping
What do you think, the LP has 10 times better sound quality? Buy 7 of these records and you've spend the price of the Urd, go figure.
PS. I prefer the un-mastered 24/192 version of this album.
Jennifer Warnes Famous Blue raincoat, not as high priced, but same differences. And the list goes on and on. Sigh ..............
