Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ken-Rad, especially the black glass are fairly well respected. I have plenty of other amps besides OTL to make use of other headphones, a Mjolnir for one. I prefer tube amps and own some solid state amps that rarely get much playing time.
Yeah, I ponied up for the black glass VT-231. Everything is getting crazy expensive for the 6SN7, so I'm happy to hear about that tube test. I was thinking 7N7 in the future but who knows. I also had a Mjolnir 2, but had to sell after I bought the Elise because finances. Now my RME does solid state duty.

Jriver Media Center. Bit Perfect. Flacs.
Been using this for years.

Also Foobar 2000, Bit Perfect. Flacs...FREE.

can either of these be used with a streaming app like Tidal or Spotify? I like Roon but would greatly prefer not to pay them a monthly sub.

I have a box of nice 6SN7, even premium Brimar CV1988, but I've had a tall Philco 7N7 in my Lyr3 since I found it, and since acquired backups, both Philco and Sylvania JAN, all tall, square shouldered Frankensteins. Special.

considering to try Audirvana

This may not be the best time for that.

Audirvana 3.5 was/is pretty good, but it is no longer purchasable (people who owned it prior to the release of Audirvana Studio get to keep it.)

Audirvana Studio has potential but it wasn't quite ready for prime time when they released it. I would give them a few more months to iron out the bugs.

I have plenty of the tall and short body 7N7's, and single triode 7A4 Loktals etc. My challenge is for all 6sn7 equivalents so we have a lot of variations that can be hidden from those involved in rating the tubes.

I have done plenty with 7n7's but I am not sure they made our final cut of 52 tubes. The black Glass VT-231's are in there. Personally I search for variations on the Russian Melz 1578's, I cover four decades with my personal collection, it would be better to go to PM if you have questions. One made our top five that is pretty rare. and the closest thing I have heard is the 1961 Melz that you might be able to find. 1963 NOS can occasionally be found in pairs for around $300.

Tubes are getting expensive and hard to find no doubt. I hold onto matched pairs for my Freya +; often I send 1950's Fotons with amps I do for friends.

Suggest you take a read here: https://audiophilestyle.com/ca/reviews/roon-vs-jriver-clash-of-the-titans-r764/

I use Qobuz, yearly subscription for flac bit perfect stuff. I dont think with of these integrate with Roon etc...

Many folks love Roon, I dont love the cost...

Others might chime in...and there are seperate threads on these outside this Schiit thread.

I love Roon. To me the cost is moot. If you use Qobuz or Tidal, the Roon interface is seamless integration with your local library and according to many offers a better UI than those from Qobuz or Tidal. If you are looking for something free, the only things I've used are Foobar, JRiver and iTunes. But Roon blows them away. YMMV
