Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I think we need to redact all these binary and analog comments and await patiently for the new products to be unveiled soon, including the eagerly awaited [REDACTED].

Unlike the recent discussions here the [REDACTED] will NOT stagnate.

Rave reviews will inundate the forums in a plethora of tsunami type waves of awe and incredulosity that will stun the casual observer and keep Schiit's order books for the product in meltdown for years.

Even the neophyte audio aspirant will be looking to jump in at the deep end just to savour the auditory delights that the [REDACTED] brings to their sonic table.

The long-in-the-tooth golden-eared and platinum-eared denizens if the High-Fidelity universe will spend countless hours plying their favourite test tones and test discs to marvel at the absolute fidelity of the product's performance profile.

And, yes, for the first time in decades, they will play real music secure in the knowlege that their audio equipment is now up to snuff to be allowed to sample their treasure trove of melifluous recordings.

break out the champers and crepes suzettes - this will be a time to remember.

A crepes by any other spelling is still a crêpes. Or a crêpês for that matter.

In light of the above, is a [Rêdacted] still a [REDACTED]...?

I'm just really hoping that one of the new products is actually called [REDACTED], that would just make me happy.

So as we all got off topic, let's bring it back for some wild predictions of these new products. Here are my guesses:

 - DSD Decoder DAC with PCM playback as well
 - Pro audio interface. A first device that would make sense would be a line/in device to go with the phono preamp for digital vinyl dubs.
 - Really good ADC (like Mytek ADC)
 - Really good ADC/DAC (like RME ADI-2)
 - Home studio recording interface (like Apogee Duet or RME Babyface)
 - DSD encoding device? What?
 - New portable DAC that is an improvement on Fulla. Fulla 2 perhaps?
 - Portable amp, not Amp/DAC, just amp (I mean 'cause portable DAPs like X3 2nd Gen, and X5 2nd Gen, have awesome converters already, but not a powerful headphone amp.
 - Full out integrated desktop Amp/DAC - to compete with Teac HD-501/301

Let's be real though...Schiit has always made products that required plug in wall power. Fulla was first attempt at portability and it looks like it needs improvement. They have also not made any ADC's, nor is audiophile community begging for it, but pro audio market is. And good pro ADC/interfaces are expensive and the cheaper ones sound terrible - this could be an opportunity from Schiit as many more productions are done in smaller home studio's and are yearning for better digital converters while the high end converter market is dominated by a few companies (Apogee, UA, RME, Lavery, Mytek) that charge a premium for those products.

And Jason, stop stealing my ideas...unless you want to hire me. :)

I always thought that  those confusing accents in language such as French were crepe anyway.

I'd love a new Loki/Loki 2/Loki Uber. Make it completely DSD buzzword proof. Have it automatically switch from PCM to DSD when a DSD signal is detected. Then have a one port USB hub built in to daisy chain the USB to the PCM DAC (perhaps with Wyrd functionality included). Aluminum case, natch.

To do DSD over USB is some pretty high amount of trickery - it's completely unnatural in every-way from a software standpoint, to connection, to decoding. It fools the USB packets into thinking it is PCM audio, then unravels it. He must of had a reason to not have a solid state relay switch between the two optimized outputs.

And according to the book, for which this threat was started, Jason mentions in several passages about cases, cost, build, quality, etc., and steel cases work best for what they are doing to keep costs down and with their local supplier. In trying to design a build a few products myself, he's totally right on with the cost of the case. Good hardware can eat you alive.

Loki 2 or Loki Uber could be. I still don't see an Amp/DAC in their lineup, unless you count the Fulla, but that is bus powered.

I hear Loki 2 will live up to its shape-shifter namesake and convert DSD inputs to 64Kbps MP3 streams.
