Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Another obvious request is lock screen controls, so that you can control playback from there. And repeating the request for being able to use the phone/table volume buttons to adjust the volume of the current stack (though if you have a Mimir and Kara/Freya/Saga, I guess it should target the preamp only).
Neither of which is possible, unfortunately.

Lock screen controls aren't actually part of any app but the operating system. Since the iOS device itself isn't actually playing any audio, there aren't any playback controls that could be shown on the lock screen.

Access to a device's volume control buttons isn't officially supported. Any apps from other sources that do offer that are using private APIs and are risking removal of their apps from distribution, as well as suspension of their developer accounts.

While this is annoying (and it is), there are very good reasons for both of these restrictions. I won't go into either because that's not the scope of this thread, and I'd appreciate if this isn't being misunderstood by folks here as an invitation to yet another Apple vs. Android debate.

With that said: We'll do our best to offer alternatives down the road that are just as useful, maybe even better, without breaking our commitment to keeping things above board.

Tonight I'm enjoying Queen - Greatest Hits on G2, Kara F and my active speakers. Never sounded that good.

With all the Mimir praise I was unsure if ordering a second Gungnir 2 for my desk was such a good idea. Felt a bit like overshooting. But it just sounds so damn good.

Hmm, that's interesting. Roon does have Lock Screen controls and it's certainly not playing anything on the phone so they must have some (hacky?) workaround.

Regarding the new BYGGY DAC:

I am on the list for a new BYGGY for my main system to go with my Freya N and Tyrs. I have a YGGY OG A2 Unison but use it in my office with a RAG 2.

In any case, I noticed that the rear pic of the BYGGY that is on your website appears to have two Unison 384s with USB C jacks. I am sure like many of us; I use USB A-B cables. If I buy a BYGGY, I will have to buy a new cable, even though I am happy with my current USB cables. Is there a reason why, as long as you have 2 USB inputs, that you don't make one a USB type B instead of both USB C?

Thanks.

Naturally there are plenty of Thorens tables that were early belt drive but this is is a great example of Japanese manual belt drive tables.🤪 This uses a fairly wide belt by modern standards and the speed is pretty much spot on.

While I like modern tables it is fun for me to do a bit of audio Archeology. Listening to Creedence from late 60’s to early 70’s now. Rather than purchasing seven albums, their greatest hits are on two vinyl records.
Back in the 70s I thought I’d really pushed the boat out when I upgraded my primitive Garrard SP25 to a Pioneer PL12D!

I have most of the first issue vinyl copies of CCR’s albums.
I didn’t buy Mardi Gras.

The two greatest hits albums are very good collections.

Fogerty’s songwriting output over about a 3 year period was quite incredible.

For me, the absolute killer albums, in no particular order, are:
Green River
Willy and The Poor Boys
Cosmo’s Factory.

Hardware volume buttons are definitely a no-go, as is the native playback control which you nicely explained.

But… :) …it should be possible to create an app extension/widget that would control Urd’s playback. It probably couldn’t work automatically (although I could imagine a workaround with a background task) but I see no reason why user couldn’t tap a button in the app to create the playback widget on the phone once Urd starts playing. See Flightradar’s flight tracking for inspiration.

USB A-B are the best IMO and I don’t like the C connectors. Good old fashioned USB “printer” cables.

I'd sure hate to be a manufacturer caught in the middle of a 'cable standards war'. Regardless of whether Schiit chose USB A/B/C/Micro/Mini there's always going to be a crowd that feels the choice was wrong.
USB cables and adapters are extremely cheap from any number of manufacturers and vendors.
Go ahead and splurge and spend $20 on a new cable in your choice of length and color.
(Or rummage through that drawer that most of us have and you may already own the proper cable or adapter)

Kudos to whoever posted the above photo a few days ago.
