Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

When did "Stereophile call the Yggdrasil "obsolete" "? The Yggdrasil is still a current Class A Rated Digital Processor, in the 2020 Fall Recommend Components. Herb Reichert also spoke very highly of Yggy, in his review. Even more so, after an A2 board upgrade.
That was in 2018. Schiit even used it in it's advertising campaigns

I have tried watching the replay of the Mike Moffatt Q&A from yesterday on the u-toob and the f-book, and the video is running at like 2-4 frames per second, however the audio seems mostly OK. Tried two different PCs, same issue. Is it working OK for you guys stateside? Maybe it's still buffering to the down under interweb
That's pretty much how it was live - mediocre video but ok audio. Since there was no show & tell, I just listened to Mike in the background while doing other things.

Your ears are not fooling you. Roon sounds different than other network protocols because of the RAAT scheme. The 1.8 update sounds better than the 1.7 version did. I cannot pretend to know why, but I am enjoying it.

They upgraded the cables. :joy_cat:

When Stereophile called the Yggdrasil "obsolete", it was TAS that had the most detailed review on this DAC, and called it one of the best bargains in hifi (TAS review of Yggdrasil).

Very true. The TAS review of Yggdrasil was very positive and they've had it listed among their editor's choice components ever since.

I’ve been looking around, and it seems like the market for XLR passive preamps is woefully underserved. Schiit should make a balanced SYS with a stepped attenuator for volume—which I guess is just the passive portion of the Freya units. Call it Sysiphus.
You can just set the Freya+ to passive mode

Hey Schiit:

My suggestion for a "next product" is either (preferably) a DEDICATED headphone crossfeed circuit; or (not as preferable) a crossfeed circuit for your headamps.

@killaHz
I looked around for something similar, so that I have passive, balanced, volume control of the XLR output from my Yggy, (when needed).
I only need this on the rare occasions when I use my CD transport as a digital source.
I decided that the Freya S was the answer. It can be used as a passive, balanced preamp, plus it has the options of two active output stages, a remote control, and all this at an absolute bargain price :thumbsup:
I bought mine before they were all gone :slight_smile:

Roon is the best thing since sliced bread. In my 5th year now and adjusting to 1.8. No other player comes even close to what Roon can do....so versatile and makes your library really sing!
