Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Does anybody else occasionally reread Jason’s chapters about your Schiit gear to gratulate yourselves on the purchase, or is this particular kind of mental illness unique to me?

Still waiting for my Lyr 3 to ship from the backorder of over two months or so. Re-reading the chapter of Lyr 3 keeps me waiting anxiously. Glad I didn’t sell my old amp when I put in the order.

Yes :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Not only that, I reread the chapters of Schiit gear I don’t have as well.. I particularly like the one about Vali2

I also read about tubes. (Ok, I need help. :flushed:)

Yea, anyone who thinks creating control software for a CD transport and data communications software for a new USB system is easy should just go buy a Sony right now. :)
Yeesh, that was harsh...

Reading about tubes means you're cool in an incognito sort of way. Just so you know.

I searched master but Sony doesn't make CD transports.

I like that. Can you imagine what it would be like if he had spent a dozen paragraphs describing the horror and decades later, you think, "That's not so bad, my kid's bathroom is more horrible than that!"
Oh yeah, it's just that it seems like about every other page he does that. I'm currently re-reading his collected works on my Kindle, so the stories are fairly fresh in my mind. Just for something different to change up the pace, I wish he would have gotten descriptive in a couple of scenes in maybe one story. But then again, when it gets good, I find myself reading as fast as I can to see what's coming next!

The Sony UBP-X800 4K Ultra Blu-ray player has a coax SPDIF out so can be used as a transport. It plays CD, DVD AUDIO, SACD and DSD files so the master’s advice holds =).

[edit] Personally I’m waiting for the Schiit transport.

X800 might also only have a minimal 6-character front panel display or not at all? can any X800M2 owner directly verify if it has a front panel display?

X1100 looks like it has at least the 6-character (alphanumeric dot matrix??) front panel display.

it would be helpful to have track and index display for CD playback / selection.

Does anybody know whether the DAC chips in the Bifrost 2 are on the main PCB or on the swappable output stage PCB?

I own an X800 and an X800M2, and neither has any kind of front panel display. That's a step up feature for the X1100.
