Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've also downloaded two versions of "In the Light" from Led Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti: the 1990 and 2012 remasters. Someday soon I'll actually sit down and listen to them and compare them against my ripped CD version (I think I bought my CD before 1990).
I listened to both today, as background music over my living room system. Not that I expected any to, but no startling differences jumped out at me. I guess critical listening with some of my head phones is in order. It'll be interesting if IEMs reveal something over-ears don't...

@Jason Stoddard Out of curiosity, have you ever considered making your own discrete op amp?
i also like to know his opinion on these OPamp LM3886. What i read about it is that once thermal complexity is managed they are very noise free.

After the last few days on this thread, my Inner Mental Radio occasionally interrupts my day dreams with "Little Red Corvette." Reminded me that Prince had something in common with another late, great impresario - Frank Zappa.
Both had a keen eye for talent. They'd discover new players, keep them in the organization for a while, then let them go on to solo careers. Interestingly, none of them ever outshone their mentors. (Possible exception, Zappa alum Lowell George.) Just a stray thought. Now, if I could just get that Corvette tune out of my head...
Another from Frank Zappa's "stable", IMO of course, would be Steve Vai. :guitar:

(updated)
from the LM3886 data sheet, it looks like it can operate off a dual +- "split" power supply, obviating the need for the large (polarized electrolytic) output series capacitor. also looks like the akitika products were designed to be module-compatible retrofits for the old Dynaco units, with some design limitations versus a clean-sheet design using the same LM3886. also getting that much heat off the chip (when driving large full range speakers) with that IC package (single mounting hole, and thin metal) is not easy to do -- need cantilevered outer clamp and a big thick chunk of metal under the mounting point.

I would consider it for maybe a 10WPC application, if even that.

(added)
under heavily loaded applications (higher rail voltages and lower impedance loads), if the on-board thermal "protection" trips and excessive input remains applied, the protection may cause on-off cycling, which will be audible and generate a lot of hf energy (which could potentially damage tweeters, etc),

on the plus side for akitika, parts quality looks decent, if you like building kits and have good soldering skills.

just my opinions, of course. YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Back when I was in student exchange in China, I had what I presume to be a pig's rectum. Didn't taste like chicken. First couple of bites were kind of sweet-and-sour-y, but then came the taste of schiit. No amount of beer was enough to wash that taste away for a couple of days, and it wasn't for the lack of trying.

Very similar to Texas BBQ then?

:stuck_out_tongue: :grimacing:

Who? :gs1000smile:

Color me shocked when years ago I found out Mr. Vai also played with David Lee Roth on the Eat 'Em and Smile album.
