Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Glad you like it. I did find it on Amazon but, on my computer, it only shows up as 24/48. To say that I dislike the Amazon Music app would be a major understatement. "Ultra HD" = 24/48? Misleading at best. Amazon needs to do better, but I suspect the general public won't notice.

Yeah I'm finding some great new music on this thread (hidden among the kittens and booze) :)

As others have said Amazon going after the mass market. Or rather trying to create one for hi res music. A new population to be dazzled by the wonders of good audio?

I am somewhat miffed that Amazon HD is not yet available in Canada. And I'm fine with HD = RedBook, UltraHD = Anything higher res. When you compare it to MP3 it's all a win.

After reading @Jason Stoddard 's musings on hi-res, MQA, Yggdrasil design decisions, etc. etc. etc., I am perfectly happy with RedBook. Except I can't get it on Amazon Prime in Canada... which is the only streaming service I subscribe to.

He's still doing stuff.

Here's Stereophile writing about the Carver Challenge: https://www.stereophile.com/content/carver-challenge

There's this ad/video of Carver going into an audio store and kind of having a party that I saw a while ago but couldn't find just now. It's almost a cross of the famous Robert Plant video and something a bit more gonzo.

That's a good visual description of the aural benefit of a line source. Kind of pricey at 18K...

It's important to go all the way to the ceiling, with a relatively narrow wave launch...find a pair of Acoustat 1+1's in good shape, send the transformers to Roy Esposito for updating, put them in a room with standard 8' ceilings, and IMHO behold one of the all time great vintage bargains in audio :)

I have a couple more shelves to add but this is the general idea. I know some of you felt I should go with shiny copper pipes so I have the option to change out the patinated pipe any time and thus I left the adapters natural going into the flanges. There is enough play in the threads of the flanges to allow for a bit of leveling. The top posts are not attached yet and this is very stable. Having a Cary amp on the bottom shelf helps a bit. Solid cherry, copper pipe and fittings, cast iron flanges.
Damn good lookin. What are you going to sell them for?

Lmao! No, just no. I may never be done with this one. Now @bcowen is making a miniature version and the man is natural born mercenary, I could coach him a bit and maybe he could come up with a reasonable facsimile. It only took me seven or eight lessons before he figured out which end of a soldering iron to hold but he got it, eventually. The man is starting to show potential, albeit slowly.

I call my Vali 2, "the mighty toaster". At home.

If a Vali 2 is a toaster, then a Class A tube amp must be Chernobyl Junior I would think.:smile_phones:

If anyone think a Vali 2 is a toaster, I wonder what this person would think of my Firstwatt amp which I can't touch for more than 5~7 sec. A furnace?

Good point, but little toaster is certainly a nice name. Winter is a comin', class A helps.:smile_phones:

How the heck did you get my password?, and why did you name an amp after it?

I had to do quite a bit of dark web poking around, but word on the street was that you had a solid state amp and I needed to verify that. I was going to gift you some GE tubes, because even they sound better than solid state. Not by much, mind you, but every little bit counts.

Grab a fully warmed up 211 or 845 tube. After 5 - 7 seconds you'd have no skin left. The Vali 2 is a refrigerator in comparison.

These small amps are but a lone match in the wind compared to my 6L6 amp.
The bias resistors alone run at 270ºF and there are 2 of them.
The top plate gets 'toasty' and the mains transformer even toastier.

The tubes themselves are merely hand warmers compared to the thermal radiation, radiating in all directions.
I figure I can maintain my 'tan' all winter long just by being in proximity to this pseudo nuc-a-lur device.

Here's a glow in the dark pic of the amp.
I figure you'd be able to see the heat mirage, looking at the amp If it were in daylight…
