Perhaps a bit of overkill for a 300B, but there are 4 things I know of where there is no such thing as too much: sex, money, tube stash...and power.

I used to try to help out in there but it can get pretty time consuming. You can learn most anything you want to know if you have the patience to read through the thread. Work on your soldering and perhaps tackle a Schiit Coaster amp build down the road and worst case, you will have a set of coasters.

I have actually been meaning to pick up a couple of the Schiit coasters! I also have all the parts to build a Nutube amp. I built my BHC+SB and really enjoyed that process...it was my first real foray into soldering. I wish I had more time to make more to be honest, it is really rewarding.

It had a bunch of PVC tubes stuck in it not too long ago. Other than that, less than 100. Or so. Most of them fit without having to use a hammer.

50 to 100 hours to break-in something is onerous enough for me, life's too short.

When I got the 1951 ribbed plate Fotons, I sort of scoffed at "100-hour" burn-in. Having experienced the required 400 hours needed for some of Rick Schultz HFC Magnetic Conduction cable, I came to the conclusion that Fotons are a roller-coaster ride that eventually levels out. The HFC cables sounded better every day. So I know there is "something to" burn-in.
When my new Brimars CV4033 arrived they sounded great right out of the box, and have improved daily.

Oh jeez you actually plugged those tubes in? I just thought you made up random answers and occasionally you did the blind pig finding an acorn impersonation.

And regarding your earlier mention of a can opener. Most likely yours is sitting on a counter and its a GE, I know your love of those tubes and no doubt your appliances match.

Well good grief, Tom. Not only did you (obviously) buy the wrong brand, if you'd purchased the recommended 3-iin-1 model from everyone's favorite tube manufacturer you could do interconnects, speaker cables, AND power cords. I believe the 4-in-1 model will do headphone cables as well, but I have no experience with it.

A brief update on the "Weldenheim" project: the prototype direct-drive amp is now clipping at 10A per channel, both channels driven, into the Raal SR1a headphone load. It plays very loud and works as a one-box solution. The chances this will become a product have increased significantly. However, there's still a long road to production, starting with talking to Raal/Requisite to make sure they are cool with this craziness, and to make sure the amp will work with whatever their future product plans may be. So don't throw away your Vidars yet!

Now, as to why we're chasing this niche product, here's the thing: I learned quite a bit about amp design in general, in the process of tweaking a product to deliver huge amperage into very low impedance loads. There's a long-standing joke in amp design about "driving a screwdriver." The Raal headphones are pretty much a screwdriver. And delving into all the tweaks necessary to increase power transfer efficiency means that we now know much more about this aspect of amp design--and will likely apply this knowledge to other products in the future.
