Interesting,....{snip}.....
:D I'm wondering what would be your answer after some (a lot) of drinks :D

A movie reference immediately popped into my head: Ronin. Someone could use a ‘grasshopper’ on him... I might be misquoting the movie... It’s still a great flick.

And in my experience the larger in diameter and weightier the knob the easier it is to really fine tune levels.

It could be, but the TEAC amp I'm using right now is the AX-501...

... and the volume knob has a diameter around 2.5 cm (1 inch aprox), not big at all, yet it feels pretty heavy.

PS: Yeah, yeah... VU meters :D

I read a list today of the 51 hardest questions folks get asked while interviewing for Apple. One that might apply here is supposedly asked of mechanical engineers.

Place a glass of water on a record turntable and slowly increase the speed. What will happen first? The water splashes out, the glass slides off the turntable, or the glass tips over. I can only think of five things I would want to ask before answering this question, but I thought it interesting nonetheless. I have a good friend who was asked several questions like that in a job interview for a large corporation and she got them all right but they were a bit less nebulous.

How full is the glass?
edit:
And is it a longdrink or a whiskey glass?
edit 2:
why is there water in a longdrink or a whiskey glass?
I would definitely wonder about how full the glass is, where on the turntable it is placed, what type of surface is on the turntable, etc.

A favorite that my friend got had to do with three light switches in one room and three lamps in another. How can you know which switch goes to which lamp by making only one trip. This question is pretty well known now but it was not at the time it was asked, oh and LED lights had not come out yet.

I am happy to be at a point in my career where I never have to be interviewed or ever have to update a resume ever again. I do conduct interviews but will not have to be on the other side of the desk again.

Pessimist: The glass is half empty. Optimist: The glass is half full. Me: I don't give a damn just let me drink it.
