Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

This is what I grew up with:

vintage-quad-ad-c.jpg

Still almost no speaker made passes square waves as well as these speakers that debuted in 1957. Also have very low distortion performance.

That looks like a pic from the late 60's. My father had them and the same amp 1966-1972.

Sunday

Today is/was my grandson's third birthday.

We video talked and enjoyed a bit of his day. He is into cars/trucks and such.
My son made him a birthday cake:

We had a party here also. Cousin and wife for dinner (he just rolled in from New Bern, where he had participated in a two day series of sail boat races, arrived with weary old man syndrome).
Whole house music, dinner and cake/ice cream. Shared the new ish Eric Clapton "Meanwhile" during dinner.
Our cake was store bought.

Enjoyable. Even if we ended a bit early.

OG Bifrost MB(s) and OG Gungnir MB, Unison feeding the speaker amps.

Enjoy the Schiit N Music

The only dynamic woof I ever heard that mates well with panels (Maggies, Apogee, M-L, Quad) is the Gradient line of woofs. ML was never able to mate their panels with woofs successfully IMO (I owned Aerius i, SL-3, Vantage). I had to go to the CLS (full range) w/ a pair of Gradients designed for Quad ESL-63's to do it. Perhaps there is a new sheriff in town. Maggie makes magneostat woofs (DWM) to go with theirs. I have heard the 3.7i with a pair and its quite good (and expensive) and you need an xover and two amps. With some boundary help you can get them putting out into the mid 20's. But the deep grunt from a dynamic sub? Not quite, but those often don't mesh with Maggies (or any panel).

Work beckons early tomorrow, but I can't seem to stop listening tonight. That could also be due to @sixergixer and his nefarious long-distance influence via his OSD bottled-in-bond bourbon though. :tumbler_glass:
Spreading my little tentacles out through as many Total Wines as I can. 🐙 Mwuahahahaha!

It's this thread if you really want to check it out.

There's a Hi Fi Show in Sydney in a week or so? What a way to find out.

Worked at a repair center for a fruity computer company and had people spilling coke/liquid and worse into the computers trying to pass off as failures.
Glad you are taking action.

At one job when I was working as a scientist, the Institute used 3rd party refilled toner cartridges to save printing costs. Unfortunately on one occasion a refilled toner cartridge fell apart next to a computer, and the power supply fan sucked in the carbon black. The user feigned ignorance and Dell fixed the computer under the service contract.

Transcoding with MinimServer is pretty easy, assuming all the underlying tools are installed: ffmpeg etc.

I believe I have ffmpeg installed and working. But how can I test it? The only way I can think of is to transcode to a format the Red does not support, in which case the transcoded stream should not play. Is there a better way?

Edit: I'm pretty sure transcoding is not working. My DAC displays sample rate and the displayed sample rate never changes from the sample rate of the original file.

I also suffered through the Cheap dudes review. Other’s opinions may vary, but I find him pretty useless. Another content “creator” surfing for the subs… disclaimer: my opinion.
It bears noting that Randy got his start reviewing cheap-af mostly-Chinese gear for a crowd who chafes at anything coming even remotely close to $300. Those kind of customers aren't really expecting much audiophile nuance because they probably don't care and would never hear those nuances on that gear anyway. Over the years, Randy has started moving a little upscale with his reviews while still striving to hold onto that 'cheap' crowd of subscribers as a base -- I think he finds a pretty good balance between those two things on the whole. I do wish he'd put a little more research into the features he is talking about but I have very little doubt about the sonic differences he is hearing and describing. That part is valuable.

Most all in fun.😉 There are some fine people here who can share knowledge in a reasonable way but like any large group there is the occasional disagreement. ACP has been doing a great job lately keeping some on track.
Agreed regarding ACP. A fine gentleman he is! (even though he kept us all in the dark for so long about his real intentions... :relaxed:)

Unlike may places on the webz, the occasional disagreement here usually finds its way to speedy and agreeable resolution without outside intervention. Kudos to all who participate!

I just plugged my Beyerdynamic T1 into the Kara F for the first time. Sitting on the floor and listening to Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms.

The first time I listened to Brothers in Arms, I too was sitting on the floor and somewhat herbally influenced.:herb:🌿

One of the things I liked about the Rega Planet was the lid slowly closing. It’s kinda like lowering a tonearm.

Nice player, always wanted one but then I stopped using CDs in the 'old' fashioned manner ...

Don't let him hear that, it'll go straight to his head.

I had no choice! And having to keep it a secret for such a long time pained me more than it did you, trust me… 🥴

It is not a simple answer, but the quiescent plate dissipation is a good indication of whether a tube is biased in class A, AB, or B. Class A bias is normally about 10W-12W plate dissipation, which is a lot of heat.
The pentodes also give off a fair amount of UV. If you take an iPhone photo in the dark, it is visible
