Yamaha cooking in their laboratory:
a man playing a piano on a beach with a piano on fire behind him

On the right I see a closed-back headphone using YH-5000SE's platform!! The model on the left could either be a different tuning of the YH-5000SE or the YH-5000 (standard edition) that people have been asking for.

My guess would be a revision with slightly different tuning. I think, they wouldn't build such hype around the same model with less accessories (standard edition). Or perhaps a more affordable model in the same chassis with different driver?
The one on the right is definitely a closed back.

Can't say if it is intentional but that image looked like the headlights of the Yamaha R1! 🤩

I mean, why? Why wouldn't we want the best bargains we can get? Money's not getting any cheaper or any easier to accrue, and price point is barely, loosely at best, correlated with sound quality.

I'm intrigued if Yamaha can bring these down to $2k or less - the YH5000 seemed really interesting to me, but not $4-6k interesting. I'm not sure any headphone is $4-6k interesting to me anymore (and I've owned cans in that $4k ballpark before).

They might be joking

Find me a DAC as good as MPD8 at a low price, find me an IEM as good as APX SE at a low price, find me a headphone as good as Immanis at a low price. Price is correlated to sound quality.

The fact is the innovation and technology that go into something like an MPD8 or Immanis are not cheap. People want to think their topping DAC can compete and that all DACs measure the same so that means it can when you actually listen to these devices on the same headphone and compare them the difference is obvious and laughable. The measurement boys haven't done these comparisons and hence they have no idea what they are talking about. Even my Chord Dave was completely trounced by the MPD-8.

Bud I've been running high end audio for 20 plus years. After a certain price point, it literally makes no difference.

A 30k speaker and a 50k speaker barely have any sunshine between them so I decided to buy the 30k set up.

I've tested my MSB with other dacs such as the Tambaqui, ADI2 and it's literally 10/10ths nowadays.

Drivers and electronics are a solved problem and you're not getting double the sound from a 100k dac as you would from a 50k dac.

Putting that all aside, the first iteration was a flop so let's hope this one is better and I say this as a multiple vintage Yamaha planar owner.
