Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I bet the ferrofluid dried up.
I would suggest picking up newer speakers. You could do a lot better than 30 year old speakers. IMHO YMMV.
So I took out the tweeter. It measures at 5Ohms (so not shorted out). I’ve swapped channels, and it stays with the speaker/tweeter. It is totally the tweeter. I erred, I got these speakers closer to 2000, so they are 25 years old. I have 4 of them, plus a center channel. Right now two are in my office, and the other two in the TV Audio system. They are quite excellent sounding speakers even by today’s standards. So totally worth trying to fix. Looks like there are multiple choices for replacements (used), factory no longer stocks them. I figure for $70 or so it’s probably worth the crap-shoot that is the bay…

Amazing how fast it went from “what is that buzzy high frequency” to “this is now terrible”… literally the course of an hour or so…

I asked Grok3 about the Wotan and it's bias. This is part of the long answer:

Schiit WOTAN's Operational Class
Official documentation, including the product page and user manual, describes WOTAN as a "conventional Class AB output stage design," distinguishing it from Schiit's Tyr, which uses a Continuity™ output stage (Schiit WOTAN Product Page). The Continuity™ technology, found in models like Tyr and Aegir, extends Class A benefits beyond the bias region but is not mentioned for WOTAN. This suggests WOTAN lacks proprietary features like adaptive biasing, relying on a standard Class AB configuration.
Evidence of Class A Bias Power
User reviews provide insights into WOTAN's operation. A Reddit post claims WOTAN has "30 watts per channel of pure Class A power," with Forkbeard reporting Class A mode at lower volumes, transitioning to Class B at higher levels (r/Schiit on Reddit: A Wotan is in the house!). This aligns with typical Class AB behavior, where the amplifier operates in Class A up to a certain power level before engaging Class B for efficiency. However, the 30-watt figure is user-reported and not confirmed in official specs, suggesting it may be an estimate.
To contextualize, for a Class AB amplifier, the Class A power can be calculated as
P = I^2 \cdot R / 2
, where ( I ) is the idle current and ( R ) is the load resistance. Assuming 30 watts at 8 ohms, the idle current would be approximately 2.74 A, which is plausible given the amplifier's 200-watt rating (maximum current around 5 A). This calculation supports the user claim but lacks official validation.
What a fabulous response! I saw the 30 wpc note and figured that it was too high. The amp draws a lot of current, so maybe. I guess forkbeard would make it clear. I don't listen very loudly and my best prior amps were Class A or sliding bias Class A (Threshold/Pass) My old Rag 1 was Class to 4 watts @ 8 ohms and that was notable on planar headphones.

The Aegir 2 in stereo may drive my load (6 ohms except where it goes under 4 from 80-220 Hz and down to 3 ohms at 90-115 Hz) mono seems to be less tolerant of the load per Martin. One Aegir 2 is liable to lack bass 'umph'. Can't afford two Tyr's.....

@Bowmoreman : don't you have some Minimus 7's in the basement?

While two replies in a row does not generally work, going from one page to the next does.🤪

You just have to be the last person to post on a page, then go to the next.

I am waiting on parts for one turntable and waiting to hear from @Adam Balm on another. Hopefully I will receive more tubes for the Stjarna and lend some samples to people I know on here.

Three days in with G2 and Kara F and I'm really enjoying the music.
I do need to hear a G2 sometime, I am quite happy with a Freya + and three other preamps so I am pretty well set on those.🤪 It will be quite a while before my group does another DAC comparison but I would love to get a G2 involved in one of those.

Edit: Took me two minutes to download the app and add G2 + Kara F to my new "FUSION5 MAIN" Forkbeard stack.

Edit2: Even had a beer in between.

I’ve got 6 Minimus 7’s… tried em out a few months back in the office… Meh… talk about NO bass… ;)

Happy news, just got the “your turn is ready for upgrade” email… off to ship her off this PM I think if I can get her packed up fast enough

For those that have ever owned a Harmony Remote, Forkbeard is a revelation. It seems like the industry is still seeking a suitable replacement for the Harmony. Schiit made one for their products for (practically) free. Even if Jason and Team weren't going to continue to add features, it would still be a tremendous value add. I sold my Yggdrasil+ GS, Freya +, and Aegirs and replaced it with the GigaStack. I also sold my Skoll and purchased the Skoll F. Super happy I did for my listening tastes. With Forkbeard, it just makes listening to music easier and all the more enjoyable.

What I’m looking forward to is gradually getting it to where my wife can figure out how to run things without fretting… the app will do just that. Of course, it awaits a FB’d URD or equivalent transport.

Got Kara packed up and labeled with her RA number, goes out sometime tomorrow!

My wife steers well clear. I have to write up notes for her and the kids - how to use or how to sell when I go off this mortal coil (not a bad band either)... As long as there are no sales droids or Bose 901's, I'll be OK with wherever...

Make sure to keep your power cord / wall wart, manuals, etc

Thank you, Lobal !! ....... AND if one dials 1-800-ECG-TUBE within the next 58.14 minutes, the companion volume can be reserved!

Lol! But FTFY anyway.
