Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Good morning everyone, did the Valhalla 3 make it to the San Jose meet?
I thought I saw a Valhalla there, but honestly I skipped the table (bad idea in hindsight). They did give one away though in the raffle - some guy got really lucky!

A week of odd, and just maybe, very profitable travel, found me back at home on an earlier flight than expected to find a Discogs package of vinyl I’d been unable to track down locally, and well, been listening happily for a few hours to some physical media the algorithm hipped me to that sounds, for whatever reason, so, so good on a rock being dragged through plastic. Knew I liked these albums from the digital, but, yeah…vinyl is vodoo.

After the spouse and the dogs, it’s the stereo I miss when out on the road.

Yep! Mark Ward's 3-part tale of this remastering is fascinating reading.

Has anyone here bought this set? I'm sorely tempted but $350 is a lotta bucks!
It works out to about $21 per LP. It will depend on how much you like Bruckner, and Karajan's interpretation. If you have a streaming service, you can preview whether these are music and performances you would like to own.

I just streamed the 5th earlier this evening. It was fantastic!

The Bruckner 7th is the best with Karajan on DG - one of his last recordings. The 8th - I like the Guilini - again on DG. The 9th - Bernstein on DG - one of his last recordings.

So you're saying Bruckner ultimately killed those fellas?! 😱 ☠️

Yet another user on another forum started a thread titled "Looking for a better headphone DAC/Amp under $300". They started out buying chi-fi DAC/Amps and were dissatisfied with the outcome. The unit they were eyeing was the Magni Unity (word gets around I guess). I and one other on the thread confirmed that it was a great solution that will serve them well along their Audio Journey. Well, another Schiit Head joins the fray.

P.S. I would have mentioned the Vali 3 as a companion amp, but I didn't want to send a fledgling audiophile down that rabbit hole just yet. :smirk:

Side note: Only 6 Vali 3 units left in B-Stock, and Magni Unity is now below 10 units left as well.

Bummer (can't hit like on that)
It’s a slow process that can take a couple days and I am now into day three, voices sound like they are digitized.

Yikes, hope the trend towards recovery on that!

Welp, Storm #1 is now done here, the sun JUST came out 10 minutes ago. I measured 8-9” (depending on where on the drive one is) of fresh snow (already had 7” on tthe ground everywhere)… next one in the “train” is Wednesday-ish…. 5” current forecast on that one…. Then the weekend, where they’re saying over another foot here…

We haven’t been above 0c/32F here at my house for at least 3 weeks now, so all the snow is just mounting up. At least it’s all been the fluffy stuff, no wet/heavy/icy,

Plows haven’t gotten here yet, but after they do, I have to go out and “clean up” the areas they can’t get by the garage, and then shovel the paths to the firewood, etc…

current view from breakfast table… homemade (gluten-free) waffles and Canadian bacon up next

How's the heating in your home? Log fire? Central heating?

Breakfast here was bacon, eggs, and English muffins with an amazing lemon/ginger jelly I just discovered. I need to order more!!

No inclement weather here and my newly acquired helper will be here early afternoon. I am curious what the Kelley school of business is teaching since I attended. The school graduated Mark Cuban, he used to teach disco and line dancing in a building not far from some of my properties. The man worked hard and his love of basketball is obvious.

I have a feeling little of my music will appeal to a 21 year old unless she is into classical, jazz, or classic rock. 🤪
