I was getting really confused , OK thanks Baldr.
but when i go to windows 10 and click playback properties then advanced to the drop down list there's everything but 24/176?

Dunno -- I am personally a Windozephobe.  Not a hater, but every time I use it I need counseling to deal with all of its idiosyncratic behavior.  I just feel better when I have Linux on my PCs.  I'm sure Schiit FAQs or cust service can be of better help.  My deal is to make new Schiit, which I am in the middle of as we speak.  Good luck!

well i want to sell this dac, but i don't wont to tell someone it a 2nd gen and its not.

I have a Bifrost Multibit that I absolutely know is new enough to have come with USB Gen 2, and when I look at the Windows 10 control panel, I too only see 16/176 in the drop-down, but not 24/176.

That said, I never use that method of playback (changing the settings in the control panel), I always just use the WASAPI support in Foobar2000 and then all the bit output stuff is handled for you.

I also don't have any 24/176 files to test on my own currently...it seems like that format is not very common as far as I can tell.

I'd suggest shooting an email to info at schiit dot com as Mike suggested. They have always been extremely quick and helpful for me.

I got my Schiit Bifrost yesterday and I let it sit and play music over night. I have to say that I am a little disappointed, this is my 2nd DAC and this wasn't a HUGE upgrade from my Spitfire MkII. I can hear that there is a difference but it wasn't worth 4-500 USD.
Just wanted to give an update, the DAC died yesterday. 7,5 years of service, it was great RIP.

Is the performance difference between New Bifrost and Gungnir worth their price difference? Recently, consider buying an upgrade DAC with a balanced output which compatibles with Mjolnir 2. But, Do I have to spend more effort on the DAC side?
