Schiit Audio Gungnir 2

Any thoughts on Yggy+ GS2 vs. the Gungnir 2 where the Yggy is only $100 more?
IMHO: Gungnir 2 is the winner.

Granted I have not heard the Yggy+ GS2 and I'm only judging from a small handful of impressions. But in a few cases these impressions are pointing to the Gungnir 2 nearing or eclipsing the performance of Yggdrasil. If sound is your only qualifier than the choice will only depend on your sonic preferences.

If upgradability is your preference than G2 seems like the clear winner to me. I can't predict the future but it seems like there is a lot in store for the next round of Yggdrasil upgrades. So consider those extra costs. I'm not saying future G2 upgrades will be cheap but at least it already contains much of the latest tech. Consider that we don't yet know the full capability of Forkbeard on the digital side. I think that there is some pretty interesting products coming through the Schiit pike. Are you cost prohibitive? G2 may be a better value than you thought.

Pretty quiet for a new release that had interest leading up, and some high praise since it came out. More thoughts please. TIA.

I still think it’s a difficult price point given other offerings in the market and the original pricing of Gungnir Multibit (especially while GS2s are still available).

It seems notable that none has turned up in the classifieds yet, which tells me buyers either love it or are taking advantage of the 15-day return window.

Gungnir 2 is also far enough away from the BF 2 to be out of reach for many, and close enough to the Yggy current gen to lead some to pony up the extra cash to one and done the DAC selection. The Gungnir 2 is a very tempting DAC, but there is a particular customer that will go for it over the other options available. Every product has a target audience.

Gungnir 2 is a bargain high-end DAC.
It is definitely better than the Yggy A2 I owned for a long time and the LIM that I had on loan.

I think if you got one, you'll keep it. My G1/A1 did it's job for a decade. Someone else can enjoy it now.

But yeah, the price point makes it a little odd since we're almost talking about different flavors here.

I haven't. I owned a B2, which I like very much but also had sins of commission (organic again, but not as V-shaped as Yggy A2). From what I read, the 2/64 sounds more disjointed and people tend to like the original B2 better as a result.
I own both BF2 cards, I don't find 2/64 disjointed really but I've never heard anything else but gungnir A2. So G2 is a big leap from BF2 then I assume ?

Not everyone. I found my 2/64h far superior. There's a reason Schiit only sells the 2/64 Bifrost now.
