I guess I've had enough European friends and read enough European lit, that I didn't notice. I know I use British vernacular some times because I've had people comment on it.

It's to keep people from stealing their furniture.

Ah I see. Yeah, I've seen them on some roads here, really only on ones where accidents have been quite frequent.
