Actually, now that I think about this a bit more, it's not possible for the common side of the drivers to be connected at the headphone end (as they come out the headphone cups separately) and the only possible place, other than the 1/4" terminator, that the common wires could be tied together is where the two cables coming out of the cups join to 'become' one cable. So my question still remains, although I now think it's most likely to be at the 1/4" terminator.

Just wanted to post a note here that I recently started using my Aeon RT Closed with an Astell & Kern AK JR that I purchased on closeout several years ago. I never liked the AK JR all that much, but honestly it is a nice combo. I didn't think the Jr would have enough power and on paper it probably doesn't but it sounds good to me.

For anyone interested, turned out to be pretty easy to change over the connector on the cable to a balanced XLR 4 pin connector. There are four insulated wires inside the DUMMER cable: Red - R+, Black - R-, White - L+ and Green - L-.
