Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Sound Quality

What sound problems are you referring to?

Maybe "problem" is not the best term. I mean the not so good sound quality people are talking about. For example in this post:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/759025/samsung-galaxy-s6-s6-edge-sound-quality/60#post_11530222
it's stated that the quality will not be improved even if the phone is connected to an external DAC.

And here is the post he is referring to:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/759025/samsung-galaxy-s6-s6-edge-sound-quality/15#post_11501562

And also statements like this:
"...both Samsung and Moto are modifying the sound before it is sent to the bluetooth headset, or DAC if wired. So we have a software, and likely not a hardware issue..."
"...My problem is the Samsung audio driver that modifies the sound before it gets to the DAC..."

I use my Momentum, HD650 and IE80 on my S6 Edge as well as ODAC on pc,laptop and phone

I have no issues with the Edge, works as it should, connected to ODAC and the built in dac is excellent. I often listen to my HD650 straight out of phone.

I can't speak about Bluetooth as I haven't used it.

I got the Galaxy S6 and I had the chance to compare it to the Fiio X3 II DAP.

First to say it's an amazing phone and I'm very happy I got it.

Overall the Galaxy sounds good and clear with no background hiss (35 ohms Audio Techica MSR7 used). By reading reviews before buying the phone I actually expected less. However, I would say the Fiio X3II sounded overall fuller and better than the Galaxy, but not with much. It's not day and night difference.

My biggest problem with the S6 is that the sound is harsh to me and the treble is annoying. Keep in mind that the MSR7 is a slightly bright headphone itself. On the Anne Akiko Meyers's Concerto No. 1 in E major, Op. 8, RV 269, "La primavera" (Spring): I. Allegro, the high pitched violin notes were definitely not pleasant to me. It was like they were scraping with the violin bow on my brain, especially at higher volume.

On the Fiio, no matter how high the volume was I never got that bad feeling. Overall the tune sounded more fuller, dynamic and musical, in short - amazing. However, on other songs I tried it didn't have such a big "wow, amazing" effect.

Tomorrow I hope to try the DragonFly Black v1.5 DAC and decide between the DAC and the Fiio X3 II DAP.
