If you are using Poweramp, the equalizer works too,but i think the treble and bass are much better in the E17.

Could you please post some details about your configuration:
. ROM: AOKP m4?
. Kernel
. Audio resolution of your music files (16/44.1, 16/48 or 24/96)
. Audio resolution displayed on the FiiO E17 screen (16/44.1, 16/48 or 24/96)
 
Do you have another picture? (the current picture shows an analog out, and not a USB digital out)

I was too excited lol. Ya i am using the Android Open Kang Project milestone 4, Kernel is GLaDOS V1.29(GSM) http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14685-15-apr-glados-v129/page__st__810
My musics are 16/44.1, display on the screen 16/48, on the manual says 48 and 44.1 will bot display 48 so it shouldn't be a problem.

Both power amp for android and the e17 support 96khz flac files. Would you mind testing a 96 kHz flac file to see if it works?

Unfortunately all he is doing there is amping the headphone out that has already passed through the phone's internal DAC, no modifications are necessary to do that.  The problem is getting a digital line out via the usb which bypasses the phone's internal DAC and uses the one in the E17 (or w/e usb DAC you use), so far we have gotten the kernel to recognize the DAC and load the necessary modules to use it, the only problem is we can't switch the phone's sound card from the default on board one yet and that problem is a bit of a toughie.  Without native ALSA support, it's going to be one heck of a hack

Not yet, we are a lot closer now, the only problem is hacking in real ALSA support and this seems to be the hard part

Great to hear there is progress on this issue, I recently have got my galaxy nexus and I love it. Lets hope it can be done, DAC support would be pretty amazing.

Try setting PowerAmp eq totally flat and toggling it on and off; you will hear it. Same with the bass and treble knobs.

The best EQ for android is the DSP manager that should be available with most roms after rooting. It seems to be a straight hardware EQ and does not utilize any form of compression, at least that I can discern.
