Without knowing the actual drivers contained within this new HD630, it would be a major disappointment if Sennheiser attempts to sell the same thing merely in a different package. Don't get me wrong, as it's actually very attractive looking. However they also don't have to resort to gimmicky products.
Sennheiser has enough engineering prowess to wow the headphone world. That world has changed dramatically and they are still acting like it's 1995. But again, I'm just a mostly happy consumer not the president of Sennheiser.
They are probably tired of us out here complaining. The hd650 veiled, then the hd800 bright and fatiguing. So they probably figured they'd put it in our hands this a bass adjustment.
They need somewhere for existing Momentum owners to upgrade to.
Commercially, their product portfolio makes sense. That means they will survive, and can afford to launch another range of electrostatics for crazy geeks like us...
Posted this in another forum but I really hoping the successor to the HD800 is not announced this week. I just purchased it and will be very upset if that is the case.
So mentally, do you note the HD800s suddenly sound worse knowing a successor might come out or are you happy about their performance as they currently stand?
I wouldn't worry too much, I wouldn't expect the closed flagship to surpass the HD800s performance. Especially if this flagship closed can is to be targeting a similar audience to that HD630 which looks to be aiming for a different dartboard.
I am super excited for the flagship closed end coming from Sennheiser later this year. I am hoping for a home run. They picked the right market to go after, IMO..there is a serious lack of true high end closed back headphones.

Yes. That's why i'm still using the Shure SE846. No closed headphone I have tried sounded good to me. So I'm excited about this news if Nomax is correct (I think he's right since he was correct about the AKG K812)
Any knowledge on whether it's going to be loaded with groundbreaking new technology, like the AKG N90Q ? Or if it's just a full size, angled driver, ring radiator like the HD800, with a truly closed back at a slightly lower price point than the technology-laden AKG ?
I for one preferred the K812 to the HD800, and use an MDR-V6 with DT250 pads for closed work.
I'm unsure about the N90Q yet .... and will wait to see what Sennheiser has to offer for it's TOTL closed phone.
We would all love for a good sealing, closed phone to be able to deliver sound quality and soundtstage like the HD800 & K812.
