I've always considered the source to be the most important link in the chain and often the cause of many of the complaints re the RS1s treble can be traced back to that foundation.
Like myself you have an E-Sound cdp and I found that an excellent player for the Grados no matter which amp I was using.
While the soundstage isn't as large as the W5000s the RS1s just handle alot of music so well that they're kept in high rotation despite the competition from my other phones.
Give the pads time to break in, they do soften after time and become quite comfortable.

Having owned both RS-1 and MS-Pro, I like 'em both.
Rs-1 produces more bass and treble while MS-PRo is more neutral , less fatigue.
I finally decided to keep RS-1 and sold MS-Pro cuz I mostly listen to HEavy Metal which I feel RS-1 does better.
Anyway,I think both are great .

I can't comment the W5000 sorry.
