thanks basman! very nice setup. what's under the cdplayer? rotel receiver? sorry, but i'm not that familiar with upper tier brands such as this.

i like the faceplate very much. is it brushed aluminum or polished? i'm thinking of upgrading my source to match my dac and amp, aesthetically as well as sonically.

No issue with my HT and Audio setup coz the analog out is connected to RC1070 preamp and the digital out to my AVR

so that's the pre-amp under the cdplayer?

Yup its RC1070 preamp. you will love the front face how neatly done and robust construction. By the way, its a brushed alum. Below is the RB1070 power amp which can be bridge to a conservative power of 300W for monoblock configuration.

Its not an upper tier brand, actually its a poor man's BAT.

How does it compare to similar priced sources?
Any thoughts/praises/opinions/slagging etc. more than welcome.

Thankyou all. I'll say again - GREAT SITE!!

I have one, too, and my first "real CDP," also. I usually rip CDs to my computer and listen via the USB so a CDP isn't high on my list of gotta-haves. But I wanted one that was pretty decent and not too expensive so this fit the bill. After listening to it (RCD1072 > LDII++ > HD650 or with the Beresford TC7510 DAC in the lineup), my low-end CDPs have been gathering dust. But like you, I have no other mid- or high-end CDP to compare it with. The rest of my gear, though, may be the stumbling block to seeing more qualitative differences. What I like best about the 1072 is its solid feel and operation. It makes my other CDPs feel like cheap plastic in comparison. It works flawlessly and reads everything I've thrown at it. The remote and menus are intuitive, simple and clear. And it looks cool, too.

Bassman, nice setup. Makes my lone 1072 feel a little naked on the shelf, all by its lonesome. Thanks for sharing.

The Burr-Brown PCM1732 delta-sigma DAC used in the RCD-1072 was only a mid-grade DAC in the Burr-Brown line, but what made it unique (and why it was used in the RCD-1072 and other players) is that it handled HDCD decoding without the use of a separate Pacific Microsonics decoder chip.

Thanks for this info.

Thanks Feifan, actually what makes it interesting is the implementation and the circuit surrounding the dac chip also considering the HDCD decoding as mentioned by Infinitesymphony. Most of all its cost.

The face plate is actually aluminum painted with a silver paint. I have the Rotel RCD-02 which is essentially the same thing. Same DAC chip at least.

Are you sure it isn't just clear anodized aluminum?

All black is very rare I think.

I'm using the 1072 along with a woo 3 with upgraded tubes and JVC DX1000 as my nightstand setup. I freaking love it! Great soundstage and bass with the JVC's. My wife however looks at me like I'm a nut to have about 3k worth of equipment to go to sleep by! LOL!

Asking questions is smart.
