Rogue Audio RH-5 Impression Thread

“My tube rolling in the RH-5 is most likely going to end with this tube,”

We’ve heard similar comments before…… No offense, but I don’t believe you lol

My wallet would appreciate it though 😂
I hear ya and that's why I said "most likely", so let's see how long it last. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I have a very good feeling about this one. . .but you never know. I will check back in if anything changes but don't expect to see me for a good while. I have finally reached "Nirvana", and I have no desire to look further at this point.

If you can find a pair of these tubes I suggest buy them, and if you don't just absolutely love them I will gladly buy them from you. That goes for anyone watching this thread too.

Happy hunting!

While listening in total bliss last night and into the morning, I kept thinking to myself that I should just sell my Pendant SE and Atticus as they just can't match what I am hearing. The RH-5 and VC pairing is so good and engaging it trumps the Pendant and Atticus pairing quite a bit now with the Raytheons in the tube slots.

I do have a special input tube (CBS-HYTRON 12BH7 Black Plate D Getter) on the way for the Pendant, so we shall see if I can get the amps back to being closer in performance. . .

Oh, I’ll be looking. I was already this morning. Found triple mica late 50’s, but no double mica 52’

The sylvania and GE 5814’s will be here Saturday.

The last couple days I’ve been listening to my Pendant SE with 59’ Telefunken EL84, Funkwerk Erfurt foil getter 12AT7 and 59’ Mullard blackburn 6CA4. Very enjoyable listen

I pretty much bought all the ones that were out there at the moment, as I have another pair on the way and a single as well. There will be more I am sure, and as soon as I see any I will let you know.

The thought of selling my Pendant has crossed my mind too. I just can’t bring myself to do it. I love seeing the tube glow and when not directly comparing to the RH-5, it’s a very enjoyable listen especially with my Auteur.

I’ve been eyeing the Rogue Atlas Magnum III tube amp for my 2 channel system 😁. Maybe let the Pendant go to help fund that.

Yeah, I hear ya. The Pendant has an intoxicating sound and look, and I don’t know if I can ever actually bring myself to sell it. I do know if I am ever in need of some funds, the Pendant will go before the RH-5 without a doubt. Other than the amazing sound, I love how easy it is to use the RH-5. The remote control is awesome, as well as how quiet it is and friendly with tubes. I have rolled the same tubes that were crazy noisy in the Pendant in the RH-5, and they are dead silent. So, that sure makes finding usable tubes for the RH-5 much easier. It's nice not having to worry or listen for noise with the RH-5, like I seem to do quite often with the Pendant.

If I was into 2 channel, I would definitely be looking at some Rogue gear. I know from research they have really got it going on, and have great pricing.

For those looking for a killer tube for the RH-5, the Raytheon 5814 double mica are nowhere to be found, but the CBS-HYTRON 5814 are popping up everyday. The CBS-HYTRON is very close to the Raytheon, with a bit more warmth and a bit less transparency. As it stands right now, the CBS-HYTRON 5814 BPSG is my #2 recommendation, followed by the Sylvania 5814a TMGP.

Here is a cheap pair of CBS-HYTRON 5814a Black Plate Bent Square Getters. If you want a taste of the good stuff, this tube will do the trick folks, and at that price I am surprised they haven't sold. The listing is not the best and perhaps that's why they haven't sold. I do know what to look for, and these are legit CBS-HYTRON. Of note, they don't have the best test numbers or a return policy, but I figure at this price it might be worth the gamble.

I bought them. They should last me a while. I don’t listen for hours at a time.

So now I’ll have 3 different 5814’s to play with while I keep an eye out for the Raytheons.

Nice! I was hoping you would grab those, as I think you are really going to like them. It will be interesting to see which 5814 you like the most.

GE 5814’s are installed…. and I found my missing case screws lol

previously I put the top 6 screws back in but left the 4 side screws out. This time, knowing I have 2 more different tubes on the way, I only put 2 screws back in the top.

I may have a new favorite, at least until I try the others incoming. The RFT is a little more mid forward which I like, but the GE 5814 smokes the RFT in the bass department. Also, I can't listen at higher volume with the RFTs for long. They get fatiguing for me, not sure why, but they do. Not the case with the GE. Adding volume brings the mids forward some and just sounds awesome. The RFTs are a little more sparkly on top. I don't feel I'm missing anything with the GE though. Also, the detail is impressive. I'm listening to Diana Krall live in Paris. I've listened to this album at least a 1,000 times. I had to back up a song cause I wasn't sure what I was hearing during a piano solo that I had never picked out before. It was Diana talking softly while playing the piano. I will say, the GE sounds better with some volume. At low volume, I still might prefer the RFT. We'll see what the Sylvania and Raytheon bring! Love this amp. @28Monkey you will not be disappointed when yours finishes it's world tour and finally arrives at your door.

Oh, the remote arrived too. The metal remote is nicer. A little smaller physically. Matches the quality of the amp. A little pricy for what it is.
