Nice! I almost bought that same exact pair of Ken-Rad, and that's the same seller I bought my Raytheons from. Those Ken-Rad look to be in great condition and have that cool old war-time tube look. I am really looking forward to hearing what you think about those.Ordered a pair of 1951 Ken-Rad carbon/pewter plate, square getter 5814’s today. Not a ton info on them, but what I find is all very positive. I received my CBS-Hytron’s. Haven’t put them in yet. I’m enjoying the Sylvania’s. I have a lot of listening to do!
They do look like they are in great condition. I read two different things: 1) GE took over Ken-rad in 52’ so 51’ was the last year of true Ken-rad made tubes. 2) GE took over Ken-rad in the late 40’s. Not sure which is true.Nice! If you are digging those Sylvania, then you are really in for a treat with the CBS-HYTRON.

I still prefer my Atticus with my Pendant SE over my RH-5, so who's to say which you will end up preferring. . .Now for the VC and RH-5, they seem to be made for each other, and are on a completely different level and why I will keep this amp forever.I like the RH-5 so far.....BUT, I am finding that the Pendant OG with the current tube mix has been pretty hard to beat
(Input: BRIMAR F6067T - ECC82/CV4003/12AU7 (50’S) Footscray Mil Black Plate, Power: Mullard (Valvo) Blackburn (60's) 6BQ5 EL84, Rectifier: Tungsram EZ81 (50's) Foil Getter) Off topic, but the Brimar Footscray F6067T has LIT it up.....shout out Zach and Justin for pairing up for the original design.
All the hardware is in on the RH-5 (balanced cables, power conditioner/supply, power cord, fuse) and so now it just comes down to tubes. AND.....the OG still holds the edge..
As @4LoveOfSound said, I found the RFT Funkwerk ERFURT 12AU7 ECC82 (early 60's) to be very fatiguing.
I had high hopes for a pair of Brimar's (Brimar CV4034 - 1970 Mil Long Plates), but although they had more soundstage than the RFT's, they felt lifeless.
Put in the Sylvania 5814A Triple Mica's tonight and I'll let it run overnight. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Heck yeah! Imagine if you could combine the bass and holographic stage of the CBS-HYTRON and midrange of the Sylvania. . . and the Raytheon 5814 Black Plate Square Getter 2 Mica is pretty much that.CBS-Hytron's went in....... after just a very initial impression.....the bass is crazy, beautiful holographic sound stage-more so than the Sylvania, mids are nice but I think the Sylvania's have an edge there. I feel that is the strong point of the Sylvania's. Can't go wrong with either. The Ken-Rad's haven't shipped yet so won't be playing with those this weekend.
I really like the Sylvania 5814A's.... not fatiguing at all. Very smooth balanced, detailed sound sig. Don't have much time on the CBS-Hytron, so I'll give them some more time, but for me, right now, I kinda prefer the Sylvania's. I'm finding the CBS-Hytron's fatiguing like the RFT's were.I like the RH-5 so far.....BUT, I am finding that the Pendant OG with the current tube mix has been pretty hard to beat

Super impressed with the Sylvania 5814’s. They are not just a little bit better than the two pairs I had in there previously, but really a day and night difference.I really like the Sylvania 5814A's.... not fatiguing at all. Dropped one of the GE 5814's into the Pendant. The slightly recessed mids I heard with the RH-5 aren't an issue with the mid forward Pendant. Very quiet. I can just barely hear any hum without music playing. Nice pairing. I think I prefer it to the RFT Funkwerk Erfurt. Very blessed to be able to own both of these amps.
I'm ready to put them back in.... By far my favorite so far.Super impressed with the Sylvania 5814’s. They are not just a little bit better than the two pairs I had in there previously, but really a day and night difference.
Outstanding balance, really nice soundstage (the L&R channels are a little above and behind my ears….not 3D holographic, but wonderful nonetheless) and cohesive.
These will stay in for quite a while.
Thanks @Wes S and @4LoveOfSound for the roadmap. Much appreciated.
Lots of adjectives out there….but “smooth” is one that first comes to mind.I'm ready to put them back in.... By far my favorite so far.
