A nice bonus….running the Sylvania’s and plugged in my LCD-X’s. At G-1 and V-100, they sound great. These are detailed HP’s and run well with these tubes. Nice bass too….almost sounds like I EQed them.
(btw…..they never sounded good on the Pendant)

I see a common theme here with all of us RH-5 owners. We all also own SET tube amps. The reality that I'm sure we've all realized is that a full tube design allows for sky high levels of pure hedonistic pleasure they do have limitations.
Enter the RH-5.
Amplification done by the tubes and current applied by MOSFETS.
It's a beautiful thing. And definitely has a place alongside a SET of OTL design.
Actually, the Pendant can take a 20 ohm load just fine and was designed for it. The Pendant and all of Justin's (Ampsandsound) SET amps are designed to handle lower impedance as well as high impedance headphones. Whether or not you like the sound is a different matter. Justin of Ampsandsound likes to actually match the impedance for his preferences on all his amps, as in he uses ZMF's on a high Z (300 ohm) tap and planars down to 20 ohms on the low Z (8 ohm) tap, and the Pendant was designed to be used that way as well. For instance, he also uses and recommends Grado's on a (32 ohm) tap, of which is their actual impedance.
Ampsandsound made SET amps (Pendant) are unique in their design and usability, and don't follow the "impedance rules" like most OTL and SET tube amps.
So, last night I swapped pads on my VC's for the first time since rolling the Raytheon 5814 Black Plates in the RH-5, and holy crap the sound is even more lifelike, and the stage presentation has expanded in all directions. It never ceases to amaze me what a little tweak can do for a system of this caliber.

I've always preferred the Auteur lambskin with the VC. What were you using before, the universe pads? The Blackwoods came with auteur and BE2 lambskin.

I started and fell in love with the Auteur Lambskin and then recently switched to Universe Lambskin. As much as I liked the exciting sound with the Universe, I always felt like something missing, and sure enough I was right. The Auteur Lambskin are the stock pads for a reason, and are where the magic happens for me with the VC.

Sorry you need to let an amp go @Wes S. If you decide to sell those Raytheon’s, let me know, highly interested in those.
I’m enjoying the 1951 Ken-Rad 5814 pewter plates. Killer bass. Highs were a little shrill at first, but have smoothed out with a few hours on them. I don’t find them fatiguing like I did the Hytron. Maybe the Hytron’s just needed a little more time…. I didn’t really give them a fair chance. Mids with the Ken-Rad aren’t quite as beautiful as the Sylvania’s, but definitely enjoyable. The strong suit of the Ken-Rad is definitely the low end, which is what they seem to be known for. If the Raytheon is a marriage of the Ken-Rad and Sylvania’s, I would consider that the holy grail.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer I need to downsize a bit. I have had a blast with the RH-5, and it will always have a special place in my heart.
That's great those Ken-Rad are working out! From what I have read the Ken-Rad and CBS-HYTRON are said to sound very similar and perhaps your CBS just need more burn in. I have never experienced any harshness or fatigue from my CBS-HYTRON’S and the way you are describing the Ken-Rad sounds spot on with how I hear the CBS.
Sylvania mids are special no doubt, and so is the bass from CBS. As for the Raytheons compared to the other two, they are a bit more forward, transparent, and dynamic, while sounding tighter and more refined/smoother at the same time.
I will definitely let you know if I decide to sell one of my pairs.
It's with a heavy heart that I share this news. . . I need to downsize due to personal reasons so I have listed my RH-5. There is a killer deal in the classifieds if anyone is looking for one of these amazing amps! I have it priced to sell, and I am including several sets of tubes that should make any new owner happy, and the SR Purple fuse as well as all original packaging is included.
