Rogue Audio RH-5 Impression Thread

It's with a heavy heart that I share this news. . . I need to downsize due to personal reasons so I have listed my RH-5. There is a killer deal in the classifieds if anyone is looking for one of these amazing amps! I have it priced to sell, and I am including several sets of tubes that should make any new owner happy, and the SR Purple fuse as well as all original packaging is included.

Happy Listening!
That's a great deal for anyone thinking about getting this amp!

I'm really enjoying the 51' Ken-Rad pewter plate 5814. The sub bass is incredible. I'm not missing the Sylvania's.

Curious, how are the mids (vocals) and top end with the Ken-Rad compared to the Sylvania's? I am still rolling 5814 tubes in my Pendant SE, and am very curious about the Ken-Rad/GE pewter plates.

I'll have to put the Sylvania's back in when I get a chance. I'm finding the Ken-Rad very balanced top to bottom. Nothing really stands out except the sub bass, but not in a bad way. The bass hits hard but is not bloated, it's well defined. The mids are right in line with the lows and highs. They aren't recessed or pushed forward like the Sylvania. The highs are nice and detailed with sparkle without being harsh. I get fatigued quick by harsh highs and I can listen for hours to these with no issues. I'm listening to Diana Krall on my Aeolus with universe perforated suede pads and it's just beautiful. Excellent instrument separation. Like I said, everything is pretty linear. Her vocals aren't pushed forward, but not recessed either. I don't feel like anything is missing and right now, I have no desire to switch them out. Well worth the $50 I paid for them. I think I got a pretty good price. I've seen them over $100 for a pair.

I ordered a pair over the weekend. It always hard to discern if these are the same, or not.

Matched Pair Ken-Rad Nickel / Pewter Plate 5814 JG-5814 12AU7 Military / Industrial Vacuum Tubes Valves Slant Goal Post Getter

but the price was right and the seller (on Etsy of all places had 100% feedback)
Should be here in a few days.

On another note, my Morrow balanced cables are in and after a few weeks of burn in, I can definitely say they had added another level to overall soundstage and holography of the RH-5. (This was comparing them to Monoprice SE cables. It was a long run >12’)

Still hooked on the Sylvania’s…going to roll in a pair of the Raytheon 5814A’s this week (3 mica, not 2).

Nice score! I had that pair in my cart for days, and went purchase them today and they were gone. You beat me to them!

That's one of my go to tube vendors, and I have bought a bunch of tubes from that seller with good success over the years.

Looking forward to hearing how those GE / Ken-Rad work out for you.

I have yet to add a GE tube to my collection, but that just might change if I hear anymore positive things about those Pewter Plates. . .

I knew you wouldn't be able to resist LOL!
LOL! As a basshead who is also very sensitive to treble, and after reading your description. . .I have to hear the Ken-Rad now.

We are a terrible influence on each other! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
