I have the Project S2 Ultra + Audioquest Coffee USB cable (which I got for almost nothing).
It's glorious. Better than AES from Metrum Ambre, which in itself is a great source.

does the coffee have the powered thingy on the cable too? Do you know if that takes the place of needing a isolator?

If you used the free version of the VOX, it is not bit perfect. I learnt this only a few months back. All the applications I know that can bypass the Apple MIDI and output bit perfect are not free. But you can take advantage of the trial period these applications offer and use it to update the DAC FW. But as you will be needing a bit perfect player for future FW updates, I’d recommend buying a license.

I'm on OSX Big Sur, the most recent version. Im guessing VOX was a spelling mistake? I'll look into it, thanks man.

VOX is actually a minimalistic music player for Mac. It comes in both free and premium versions and only the premium version does bit-perfect. VOX's premium version is a subscription model. So if someone is paying for a music player, they might as well get something like a Jriver, which offers a lifetime license (for that particular version).

@ThanatosVI Have you looked at getting a Pi2sAES? It would be really interesting to compare that to the wavelight server.

this video got me thinking that maybe it just the clean nature of the sig from server is what makes it sound so great. (and it seems the pi2saes is super quite. I ordered one but i'd have nothing to compare it to other than the PC. (is is also a TON cheaper and $4300 is a lot for a steamer.)

No, there were several weeks in which I had to use a different DAC. Audio memory isn't that accurate over 3 weeks.

However there is a huge difference to the other DAC I used, I'm so glad the Wavelight is back!

I used the Oppo Sonica DAC in the meantime. Which is a Delta Sigma DAC Based on an ESS Sabre chip

I thought you sent your unit to replace the outer part to change colour. Did they replace the inner part as well?

I honestly can't tell if they switched the outer part, gave me a perfectly looking black b unit or even a new unit.
