have been comparing i2s and aes/ebu. using pink faun i2s and bibacord mk2 aes/ebu cables.
aes - bass digs lower. slight more punch and definition. where the aes really shines is perception of 3d space.. really separates out elements and throws stuff much farther out in front. top end is slightly rounded and less sharpness and "zing" to edges. overall a more pleasant listen with less hot highs.
i2s - sharper and more immediate sounding. occasionally a bit hot on the treble. very clear, airy, more upfront everything. staging seems flatter and definitely not as strong in front/back depth. low end is tight but slightly less punch and reverb, slight less sensation is sub-bass.
Agreed on the color. But it would be very interesting to hear how Rockna has optimized and refined the Wavedream. When I was doing my DAC evaluation last year, my final two choices where the Wavedream and the Weiss. To be honest I could have very easily gone with the Rockna and been very very happy. It's a outstanding DAC.
Ugly as fcuk, but might as well check it out while I'm there
Probably I’m the only who loves the color. It looks fantastic to me.Its certainly very....red? Might work well with DartZeel's gear, at least aesthetically. I wonder if there are any sonic changes or is it all the colour and top plate change vs the regular Wavedream Signature.

Nicolae himself should wear it.A salesman in Munich should be dressed like this
Nicolae himself should wear it.
He will be there with new products like this Anniversary Edition and the Wavelight Server
All,
I just contacted Rockna about how to adjust volume control of Wavedream for matching output voltage ( Vrms ) like 2V ( RCA ) and 4V ( XLR ) . Andrei from Rockna answered me as below
" You have to only lower the volume by three 0.5dB steps for the desired max voltage
level.
These are my calculations:
Edition: Vmax RMS SE = 2.33v, Vmax RMS XLR = 4.66v
dB=20*log10(2/2.33) = -1.32dB => -1.5 dB(3 steps)
dB=20*log10(4/4.66) = -1.32dB => -1.5 dB(3 steps)
Signature: Vmax RMS SE = 3.53v, Vmax RMS XLR = 7.07
dB=20*log10(2/3.53) = -4.93dB => -5.0 dB(10 steps)
dB=20*log10(4/7.07) = -4.94dB => -5.0 dB(10 steps) "
You can use a Vpp/Vrms/dbu calculator to gauge how much attenuation is required to achieve a certain voltage.Thanks for finding out.
Just so I'm clear.. if I want 4v at xlr out for signature, I just set it at -5dB?
