that's a shame. i have depression too (16 years now) and i can see the humor here. i think onstad hit the nail right on the head; as a depressed person i'm a little surprised you didn't get it.

will75,
it is best to start at the beginning. a lot of the pathos of the strip is in the character's personalities.
start here: http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10012001
give it a chance it is sooooo worth it. in the later ones hover your mouse over the comic to see the alt-text, which is often as funny as the comic (or explains it).

hey mitch, i found one a little more your speed:

I don't see how you can like some guy making fun of people who are depressed? (ok it's to an exaggerated point, but still) I don't get it? What's meant to be funny?

I'm at a total loss what made this guy come up with this one day and think it would be "funny". I hate being negative, but I just don't understand why.

that fine. just keep misunderstanding and being mad, and i'll enjoy the comic.

It's funny, but I find grocery stores eerily depressing, too. There's something weird and impersonal about those spaces. It is known that grocery stores deliberately play depressing music to make people slow down, feel bad and buy more food (for comfort). That much is true.

March 11, 2003 - Wow. That one's rib splitting.

Ding Dong (pee-pee) humor - always funny
Charlie Rose reference - my favorite journalist
I hope you like chicken which has been baked in a dish - classic

Another good one:

I didn't really like the first two, but the March 11, 2003 one is very funny.
