RME ADI-2 Pro - DAC, Headamp, an a lot of more stunning features

Looks like RME are about to release a new model, the RME ADI-2/4 PRO SE DAC. It has higher headphone output and 4.4 balanced connection. I will be buying asap on release, the only thing that has prevented me from buying the ADI Pro 2FSR is the weird balanced adapter and lower headphones power output.

Interesting, wonder if they start using ESS chips for the Pro now, perhaps some enhanced specs as well besides the extra power. Not sure where this is supposed to fit with Pro FS R already existing but I’m patiently awaiting reviews. :)

Is this essentially an upgraded FSR while lacking AD? AKM?

AD will still be present, the unit will use ESS chips, AD: ES9822 Pro, DA: 2x ES9038Q2M.

Specs will be enhanced, will deliver more power for headphones, enhanced Autoref, true balanced mode, revamped PSU (linear PSU will also be available somewhere down the line), power consumption will be more than the ADI-2 Pro but still exemplary. DSP will also be a more capable.

I’m personally very interested in this unit. :)

Firmware 262/113 is live!

"Topic: Firmware Update ADI-2 DAC 78 / 49 and ADI-2 Pro 262 / 113

Note: usually we publish Windows and Mac version simultaneously. But the Mac FUT includes some other urgent fixes, so the firmware update for Pro and DAC are already available for Mac users. The Windows FUT will hopefully come soon (blaim Corona).
Here comes a small update with issues that were found after the last firmware update (https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=34588). The ADI-2 DAC series changes from DSP48 to 49, the ADI-2 Pro series from 112 to 113.
Pro and DAC
- Do not load Volume: This option was critizised to have a confusing double negation. We changed that, it is now renamed to Load Volume, with the two choices with Setup or Disabled.
- Do not load volume: did not always work as expected - fixed. Please note that when loading the Factory Setup ignoring the option was intentional (to also get the factory volume settings). We changed that, it now also follows the current Load Volume setting.
- Remote Locked now allows to use the volume keys on the remote, equalling Keys Locked where volume still worked.
- B/T changed to +/-12 dB. I have to confess that I had a hard time to accept this change, and just hope it doesn’t backfire. The former way of handling it was perfect for me, +/-6 dB does not screw up the sound but allows for a quick turn adjusting the Bass and Treble as the current tune needs it.
Since the inclusion of B/T into the PEQ we got requests to allow them to work up to +/-12 dB, as the other bands do. Unfortunately there is no way to have +/-12 dB in the PEQ and only +/-6 dB in B/T, it must be the same limit, as these are the same controls.
Now one could argue that in typical HiFi units B/T has always been at least +/-10 dB, so why not doing it here too. Well, some users that hate tone control anyway, will turn the knobs, land on +12 dB bass or treble, and immediately write unasked posts everywhere how crappy that sounds. So far this never happened with the tamed +6 dB max. Fingers crossed I don’t have to read such nonsense in the future…
Pro only
- In Dual EQ mode a graphics refresh was missing in the Bode plot.
- In Dual Phones mode with AutoRef active, inserting a TRS jack into Phones 1/2 could cause a wrong dBr setting.

Yes, you can connect a turntable to the rme dac and use the rme as headamp. You can even digitalize your vinyl records with the rme adi-2 pro

what about RME to poweramp.....using the RME dac, and bluesound as streamer
would I use the RCA outputs on the streamer to connect to the RME via an rca to balanced cable?
Use the usb output and input it onto the RME dac to use the dac of the RME. If your poweramp has xlr input then connect it via xlr cables with the RME ADI

Does anybody have an answer to this: when I use the B/T eq encoders on front panel, whatver is changed is NOT reflected on the graph of the full parametric EQ.
Well, i have two of these dacs and in one of them it shows and the other no.
I have checked the manual, i made sure OF COURSE all eq settings are enabled…
It’s a mystery !
Anyone has an answer???

Oh, well. Looks like the delivery of the Pro2/4 will be delayed until beginning of December. I was supposed to receive this week, but apparently there has been some delays in production and QC.

It's eventually the setting "Load B/T w Preset" in the EQ menue. When "on" B and T is part of the EQ setting.

Yes, plus it gives you two more bands of EQ to play with. Bringing the total to seven.
