Riviera AIC-10 headphones & speakers amplifier

You need to be careful when connecting to tube amplification. With solid state, just be mindful of volume and any supporting mechanisms i.e. mute relay, DC protection, etc.
I am pretty sure that I have read that the Riviera AIC-10 is a hybrid amp with only tubes in the pre-amp stage and with SS output.

I agree on your second sentence: With solid state, just be mindful of volume and any supporting mechanisms i.e. mute relay, DC protection, etc.

That's why reading comprehension and context is important, as that user is using a 845 power amp.

This is probably a long shot but has anyone compared the AIC10 with the Hifiman EF1000?

Another question for fellow AIC-10owners: I'm thinking of getting a pair of Spatial Audio X3 speakers. They're rated for 8 ohms/97db sensitivity. Do you guys think the Riviera can handle these?

Thanks

It will likely depend on how big the room is.

I had no issues with the aic and a set of harbeth p3s ESR which are 88 DB that they were in near field

thanks. It's a small room and I'll be playing at low volumes so should be ok. These are open baffle though so not sure if that changes anything for amplification...

97db with 8ohms should be high enough for the AIC, but it still depends how big the room is and at what volume you like to play.

Received the X3 speakers and i can confirm that the Riviera drives them beautifully and with a lot of authority. Thanks to all for your feedback which made me take the leap.

One little caveat is that the Riviera doesn't have a function to set the output volume independently on the speaker outs vs the HP out like some other amps do. So now i have to manually adjust the volume each time I switch from HPs to speakers since the volume level of the speakers is much lower than the HPs. Not a big annoyance and I'm still very happy with the setup, but thought i'd mention this for others who are thinking of doing the same as me.

Unless there's a different way to set volume levels independently which I haven't discovered....

I tend to turn volume down when I power off the amp. I listen to hp and speakers 50/50. I never know what I will listen to the next day. And yes, the AIC is a phenomenal two channel amp as well!

Hi, may I know if anyone have a chance to compare the B749 and G73R? I’m back to the upgrading path and want to know if which is good.

Also, I saw post about changing fuse, is changing the output stage fuse is not that obvious than the tube stage fuse?

Thanks

Anyone interested in purchasing a s/h Riviera AIC-10 Bal, can send me a PM.
I'll probably put it in the classifieds during the next few days.

I'm sure it will sell very quickly, enjoy your new amp! And if anyone needs a G73R tube and/or a Tesla one to go in the AIC10 you buy from Axel, let me know, as I have one of each for sale
