I want to replace my srh940s, which have started cracking (out of warranty). Do you think it would be better to get the master editions or save up and buy an srh1540 (which I have listened to and like)?

Also, can anyone give a comparison of the two? Thanks.

Hah - I'm not really the best person to ask since I don't own any Sennheiser headphones right now (except for the Amperior which is a different beast), but in the past my stuff has been much more often compared to the HD650 than the HD600 if that helps.  I'm sure there's a bunch of ZMF owners who have Sennheiser 600's and 650's...right guys?
 
I do think in a general sense it's safe to say my headphones are warmer than the 600.

Haha cool! The V1s were usually used by my sisters would stole them when I got the Vibros and Blackwood but I can't wait to hear them again!

Well my blackwoods are definitely akin to HD-650 interms of warmth, but better in every aspect (except for transparency and  soundstage). THe blackwoods are very similar to my LCD-2, but slightly smoother, the mids are a bit richer, the highs are similar in quantity but the LCD-2 is a bit more airy (probably hearing this because of closed vs open), bass is similar, LCD-2 has slight more extension but blackwoods have more impact, both are just as tight. I find it amazing that the lcd-2 sounds slightly grainy compared to the blackwood. I actually like it more than any of my headphones right now, its very very musical and yet has a very good level of detail. The only two things that I can point out to be the problem for this fantastic headphone is that it lacks a bit of presence in the top octave which makes it lack a bit of airiness compared to the other phones that I have, and the soundstage is slightly smaller (but exceptional for closed backs). Really enjoying my pair, I tried other planar closed backs such as the audeze el-8 and the XC, they sound artificial and distant compared to the organic and lush blackwood, this headphone is a keeper.

Also to those who have inquired about the "last of the t50's."  I have tons in stock, and last I heard the MKIII driver will be very similar if not the same.  I've spent the last few years of my life getting that "ZMF" sound out of these, I have no worries when it comes to making sure the t50 MKIII will have that same magic and will be tuned to the same FR curve etc etc.
