Am I the only one who looks at pictures of these and thinks they look cheap and plasticy. They look really easy to break to me.

I have a pair, in fact the first that were made single ended with an option to upgrade to balanced at cost.  They are the best cables that i have ever heard with the 800s and i have heard many different ones.  They are incredibly heavy duty and if anything weight a bit more than i like.  That said, i have never considered selling my pair and they are far from easy to break.

Guess it doesn't matter though in that your inventory doesn't include HD800's anyway.

^Trust him, I've seen this man's HD800's first hand, if they can survive him, they can survive anyone!! J/K, but really I treat my HD800's with white cotton gloves (they sell em at Ritz camera) They're tough, but the finish will suffer.

I just find from pictures that they look very plasticy and cheap. Perhaps I will try one someday.

They have some weight to them, they feel good, precise, like a german made item should, the HD650's are cheap and plasticy, but they aren't really known for falling apart either.

I've owned the HD650s and they do come off a bit plasticy and the headband cushion is a little on the DIYer side. But the HD800s are solidly built. Sennheiser used the polymer in question to minimize vibrations and weight and I've got to say, while the HD650s were the least comfortable headphones I've had on my head, the HD800s are, by a good margin, the most comfortable headphones I've had the pleasure to put on my head.

Simply outstanding comfort. I've had mine for about a year and a half and they look just like the day I got them. Outstanding German engineering.

Noticed that the HD800 is not available for sale in many web sites where I would expect them to be... any chance that the production of these was terminated and a new model is coming?

Or is it just after Christmas / new year empty stock?

It's available at the usual places Amazon, BHphoto, Headroom or even Colorware if you fancy a personalized version.

Sennheiser do not allow the HD 800 to be sold normally on-line, except in the US I think.
