Review of Hidizs AP100 portable HiFi music player

I paired this with my newly purchased Oppo PM-2 and I think the combination is very, very good. Though the PM-2 is advertised to be easily driveable, I had to increase the volume to 50~60 whereas on my V-Moda M100 and Senn Momentum, the volume is set from 30 to less than 50.

I think i will use this combo for quite a while. :) I enjoy it immensely.

awesome, best choice :)

Every thing is good on the AP100, especially if I pair it with iem with 30 ohm plus ones such as my audio technica im02. But when I paired it with my Fidue a83 there is a constant hissing at all levels of volumes. For those who don't know a83, is is a 3 driver hybrid with great resolution n very neutral iem.

The sounds are good n crisp on the ap100, but when compaired with ak100II n ak120II, ap100 has more ambient noise, hissing, and less sound stage and l/r resolution, n less dynamic tonal range.

Over all I would say ap100 is approximately 50-65% of an ak100II

It is value for money in terms of performance, just pair it with higher impedance earphones.

Enjoy:wink:

Very easy fix for hissing.  Get 75 ohm DUNU impedance adapter ($13.90): http://penonaudio.com/3.5mm-Inpedance-Plug - problem solved!!!

I've told you it sounds incredible, beating the crap out of Fiio X5 ...

I've not heard the X5 so I can't comment on that. But the AP100 is very good. Noise levels are higher than necessary though. Navigation is easy. Enough problems for me not to recommend to anyone but big-device audiophiles. But pretty awesome. Great external DAC streaming capabilities, too.

On my PM-2 and M-100, I hate to admit this but I am preferring the X5 more and more. It seems it is more spacious and more detailed. For my Q701 and Momentum, I still prefer the AP100. Need to do more listening though but I am keeping both at the moment.

Do you have SRC set to 24b/192k sampling? Make sure you do. That is a setting which gives you the most detailed sound with the widest soundstage. It's really a big step up from X5.

Yes I do. (I read you review before buying th AP100

Don't get me wrong, I like the SQ of the AP100 but when paired to my other cans, I thought the X5 sounded a bit better. The beat of the drums sound more natural especially on the PM-2.

I wanna try this player with Unique Melody Merlin 12Ohm CIEM's. Will it be possible to use them together? I mean will the noise level be critical and will player be able to pair with low imperdance earphones?

I am also worried about my 1964 V6 which is coming next month becoz ap100 does not sound good on my sony xba 3 which I heard is less ohm. I bought the impedance adapter suggested about, but the sound changed to have less energy. I thought the bass on my xba3 was already slow. When I added the impedance adapter, it is even slower. Maybe it is out of phrase because sony lined-up the drivers on a straight line.

I'm going to join the party soon. Look who just arrived to keep his little X1 friend company.....

This is going to be fun. Burn in has commenced and I will be adding my comments soon. Good news...no impedance adapter needed with the Havi B3. The HO drives them quite well with no hiss or background noise. Very nice review twister6. From my initial impressions, I'd say you nailed it.

I can confirm that the 32ohm Havis B3 play without any hissing at all.  My initial impressions of the AP100 are extremely good and I'm agreeing almost 100% with your review.  I am curious if you have had the chance to compare it to the Colorfly C4.  Since the AP100 uses the eact same dac chip, SRC chip and opamp, I'm thinking you are really getting a C4 in a smaller package at less than half the price.  From the reviews I have read on the C4, it would appear that the AP100 has a very similar sound.  I wish I could get my hands on a C4 to confirm this. Any thoughts on this twister6?
